Aufgenommen mit seinem langjährigen Produzenten Byron Gallimore, besteht Tim McGraws 12. Studio-Album Two Lanes of Freedom zu gleichen Teilen aus locker loslaufenden Gute-Laune-Tracks, romantischen Love-Songs und nachdenklichen Titeln über die großen Lebens-Themen. Dem nostalgischen Tagtraum von "One of Those Nights" mit seinen U2´ischen Gitarren stehen der Humor und die Fröhlichkeit von "Southern Girl" und das leicht angekaterte, Beatles´eske “Mexicoma“ gegenüber. McGraw betont jedoch, das klangliche und konzeptuelle Rückgrat des Albums sei der hymnische Titelsong gewesen:
