Am 4. Oktober 1974 veranstaltete die Country- und Southern-Rock-Ikone Charlie Daniels im War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, den ersten Volunteer Jam. Jetzt, fast 50 Jahre später, wird der komplette Auftritt von diesem Abend zum allerersten Mal das Licht der Welt erblicken.

Unter dem Titel "Charlie Daniels & Friends: Volunteer Jam 1 - 1974 - The Legend Begins" nimmt das Album die Zuhörer mit zum ersten Jam im War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, wo die berühmten Daniels-Songs "Long Haired Country Boy", "Uneasy Rider" und viele mehr gespielt wurden.

Das Album enthält eine Reihe von Musikern, die sich der Charlie Daniels Band auf der Bühne anschließen, darunter der verstorbene Marshall Tucker Band-Gitarrist Toy Caldwell und der ehemalige Schlagzeuger Paul Riddle sowie der Gründer der Allman Brothers, Dickey Betts.

"Der Volunteer Jam war ein magischer Abend", sagte David Corlew, langjähriger Manager von Daniels und Präsident von Blue Hat Records. "Es gab keine andere Veranstaltung wie diese. Das hat es nie gegeben und wird es nie geben."

Unter Daniels wurde der Jam zu einem der wichtigsten Konzerte in Tennessee für Rock-, Country- und Blueskünstler. Er lud Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, Little Richard, James Brown, Roy Acuff, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Alabama und andere ein, bei vergangenen Shows mitzuwirken. In den 1970er und 80er Jahren produzierte Daniels eine Handvoll Live-Alben, die bereits veröffentlicht wurden.

An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor, and a true road warrior, Daniels parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children, and others in need. The Charlie Daniels Band has long populated radio with memorable hits and his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Over the course of his career, Daniels received numerous accolades, including his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Daniels helped to shine the spotlight on the many causes that were close to his heart. He was a staunch supporter of the military and gave his time and talent to numerous charitable organizations, including The Journey Home Project, that he founded in 2014 with his manager, David Corlew, to help veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Daniels passed away on July 6, 2020. He was 83.
