Info zu Just For You (Remastered)
Signed to Capitol Records from 1980-1982, Donna Washington released her swansong album, "Just for You" with a funky lead single entitled "Do Ya Wanna, Huh?"
Once again, success eluded her with no interest nor support from the consumers, retail nor Radio. Hard to even believe where this sista has pipes for DAYS! Sadly, this album disappeared into oblivion as did SHE. With the typically soulful and enthusiastic R&B which graced her two prior albums, "For the Sake of Love" and "Going for the Glow," Washington tears her way here as well through some zippy, funky jams and gorgeous mid-tempo R&B ballads. The album's BEST treat, however is in the duet, "I'm Into You," which pairs her with labelmate, L.J. Reynolds of The Dramatics for a song that's reminiscent of say, Luther Vandross' and Cheryl Lynn's "If This World Were Mine" from the same year. Also noteworthy is that Chuck Jackson (Natalie Cole fame with Marvin Yancy) produced (for the second time) this album as well as its predecessor, "Going For The Glow."
"Washington's third and final Capitol outing isn't nearly as memorable as her first two. There are pleasant moments to be found in the sullen "Don't Be an Island" and the rich "One More Night" (the latter covered in 1987 by Ana), but the overall tone is too formulaic and bland for the soulful vocalist's highly deserving pipes. Tracks such as the single "Do You Wanna, Huh?," a blatant knockoff of Amii Stewart's "Knock on Wood," and "I'm Into You," a poorly structured ballad performed with labelmate and ex-Dramatics member L.J. Reynolds, are aimless and unimpressive. Washington salvages a few of the weaker moments, but can't hide her lack of enthusiasm at certain points." (Justin Kantor, AMG)
