Antonio Figueroa
Originally from Montréal, tenor Antonio Figueroa began his career with the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal. His numerous awards include, notably, the International Vocal Art Institute’s Silverman Prize, awarded for his performance of Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail). His successful debut in the role of Nadir (Les pêcheurs de perles) at the Opéra d’Avignon led to further European engagements: with the Opéra Comique, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the Capitole de Toulouse; in Liège and Lausanne; and at the Theater an der Wien. As well as developing his career across the Atlantic, he has performed with Pacific Opera, and with opera companies in Québec, Montréal, and Ottawa. Working with director Peter Brook, he sang the role of Tamino both in the Parisian premiere of The Magic Flute at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, and in the grand world tour that followed. His repertoire ranges from the Baroque (Handel’s Messiah; Bach’s Magnificat and St. John Passion; Castor et Pollux and Armide by Gluck) to the contemporary (Adès’ The Tempest; Wainwright’s Prima Donna); and shows his fascination with Mozart (Mitridate, The Magic Flute, Così fan tutte), French opera (Lakmé, Hamlet, Les mousquetaires au couvent), and bel canto (L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Don Pasquale, La fille du régiment). After graduating from the Université de Montréal, he returned there in 2020 to work on his doctorate.
