Biographie The Prestige All Stars

The Prestige All Stars
was a shifting collective of top-tier jazz musicians under contract with Prestige Records during the 1950s. Rather than functioning as a permanent band, they convened for studio jam sessions engineered to produce loose, spontaneous, and high-quality hard bop and cool jazz recordings without a single designated bandleader.

Founded conceptually by Prestige Records creator Bob Weinstock in New York City, the initiative capitalized on the label's rich roster of legendary talent. Instead of keeping artists strictly isolated to their own headlining projects, Weinstock regularly gathered groups of prominent regulars and promising young talent for informal "blowing sessions". These sessions allowed musicians to collaborate dynamically, trading solos and creating original music in a relaxed, highly improvisational environment.
