Dass Großbritannien als eines der Zentren der Pop- und Rockwelt gilt, ist nichts Neues. Country-Musik hingegen kommt einem wohl nicht als erstes in den Sinn, wenn man an das Vereinigte Königreich denkt. Dabei kommt eines der derzeit heißesten Country-Duos, The Shires, von genau dort. In ihrer Heimat sind Ben Earle und Crissie Rhodes längst eine fixe Größe - und erreichten nicht nur mit jedem ihrer Alben Platz eins der Country-Charts, sondern wurden auch mehrfach mit Gold ausgezeichnet.
Für ihr neues Album »Good Years« haben sich Ben und Crissie wieder ins Mekka des Country begeben. Die Rede ist natürlich von Nashville, wo auch alle bisherigen Longplayer der Band entstanden. Einen ersten Eindruck davon, was sich ihre Fans erwarten können, gaben The Shires Ende bereits 2019 mit der Single »New Year«. Im Januar 2020 legen sie mit dem Song »Lightning Strikes« noch einmal nach. Authentische, gefühlvolle Songs, perfekter Harmoniegesang und jede Menge Pop-Appeal - das kommt auch im Heimatland des Genres gut an: 2017 bekamen sie als erster UK-Act von der Country Music Association Awards den CMA Jeff Walker Global Artist Award verliehen. Nun ist der Rest der Welt an der Reihe, The Shires zu entdecken.

The Shires
formed after Ben (from Hertfordshire) appealed on Facebook for a female country singer to work with him. Crissie (from Bedfordshire), a friend of a friend, replied, came round the very next day and they discovered an instant chemistry.
“We can build our own Nashville underneath these grey skies,” they sing on ‘Nashville Grey Skies’, the infectious radio hit that introduced them last summer and hoisted a flag for home-grown country music.
Both are inspired by the old-school workmanship of country music’s professional songwriters – people they would later work with on their first trip to Nashville last summer. Learning at first hand the storytelling style of classic country songs, and how to craft a catchy chorus, the duo then injected elements that could only have come from our side of the pond.
Powered by Crissie’s powerful but subtle and supple vocals and Ben’s perfectly complementary tones and acoustic guitar, The Shires have literally found a piece of country to call their own. They love American music, but they’re proudly British and intensely keen to add some real indigenous flavour to the pot with their debut album 'Brave'
