Jean-Philippe Sarcos, Leitung

Jean-Philippe Sarcos
First prize at the Paris Conservatory in the class of Jacques Castérède and holder of the Concert license from the École Normale de Musique de Paris, Jean-Philippe Sarcos turned very early towards conducting, while continuing his studies singing, composition and organ.

He works with great international chefs, such as Georges Prêtre, Pierre Dervaux, Jean-Sébastien Béreau, Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden, Gérard Devos and Dominique Rouits. Very attracted by romantic music, he is also very interested in the baroque repertoire. In particular, he worked for three years in the class of William Christie at the Paris Conservatory, and directed various groups playing on period instruments.

He is founder and artistic director of the Le Palais royal choir and orchestra with which he performs baroque, classical and romantic music on period instruments. At the head of the Royal Palace, his presence is noted at numerous festivals: festivals of La Chaise-Dieu, Sisteron, Chambord, Sylvanès, Auvers-sur-Oise, Saint-Malo, the Saint-Victor abbey in Marseille, Seville Early Music Festival…

In addition to his activities with the Royal Palace, he is invited by various orchestras such as the National Orchestra of the Warsaw Academy, and is enthusiastically involved in various enterprises aimed at transmitting classical music to younger generations. He notably founded the Académie du Palais royal which brings together in Paris more than 400 young instrumentalists and singers supervised by professionals from the Palais royal.

He regularly performs on the biggest Parisian stages: Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Pleyel, Salle Gaveau, Théâtre Mogador, Cirque d'Hiver, La Seine Musicale, and enjoys performing rarely performed works such as Les Saintes Maries de la Mer de Paladilhe, The Flood, The Promised Land and the symphonies of Saint-Saëns. We owe him in particular the French creation of Coronation Ode by Elgar à Pleyel.

Jean-Philippe Sarcos recorded with Le Palais royal a recording of Mozart's Requiem awarded five tuning forks, as well as the first recording of the sacred works of Mel Bonis, a French post-romantic composer. The Mezzo channel dedicated a documentary to him entitled Jean-Philippe Sarcos, conductor. He also recorded for Mezzo, as part of the Souvigny Festival, motets by Bach and the Vespers of the Holy Spirit of Padre Soler which he reconstructed.

Recently, he conducted Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, the complete symphonies and piano concertos by Beethoven, The Creation and The Seasons by Haydn in the original French version, Thamos, King of Egypt by Mozart, The Danaïdes by Salieri, etc.

Last season he conducted Handel's Coronation Anthems and Te Deum from Dettingen at La Seine Musicale; Two men and a woman, French opera recital with Kévin Amiel, Paradisi Gloria, staged and candlelit program that he is recording next month for the Aparté label, Verdi's Requiem...

Passionate about opera, he regularly gives concerts with soloists such as Julie Fuchs, Clémentine Margaine, Mathias Vidal, Jodie Devos... and directs lyric recitals as part of Voix Parallels, where young talents selected from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique from Paris become professional on stage alongside the most renowned singers.

Jean-Philippe Sarcos is colonel of the citizen reserve of the Air and Space Force and is a knight of the National Order of Merit.
