Petrassi’s long creative life was marked by ceaseless absorption of ideas and by constant invention. His Flute Concerto is notable for its boldness of design and the surprise of its unorthodox sound world, where instruments rotate in block form. The Piano Concerto is more overtly virtuosic, even showing some influence from Prokofiev. The orchestral suite drawn from the ballet La follia di Orlando (The Madness of Orlando) is often clothed in Petrassi’s experimental orchestral sonorities. ‘The rehabilitation of Italian twentieth- century music by the Naxos label continues unabated: the latest release is this remarkable collection... that any genuine Petrassian will rush to purchase’. Bruno Canino
Der italienische Pianist Bruno Canino wurde 1936 in Neapel geboren. Er begann sein Klavierstudium am Konservatorium seiner Heimatstadt mit Vincenzo Vitale, setzte es dann am Mailänder Konservatorium unter Enzo Calace und Bruno Bettinelli fort, wo er seine Klavier- und Kompositionsstudien mit einem Diplom abschloss. Bruno Canino konzertiert als Solist und Kammermusiker für die wichtigsten Musikgesellschaften und Festivals in Europa, den USA, Kanada, Japan, China, Malaysia, Russland, Südamerika, Neuseeland und Australien. Seit fünfzig Jahren gibt er gemeinsam mit seinem Klavierpartner Antonio Ballista Konzerte und ist Mitglied des Kammermusik-Ensembles Trio di Milano. Außerdem arbeitet er mit renommierten Künstlern wie Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, Lynn Harrell, Itzhak Perlman, Viktoria Mullova und Pierre Amoyal.

Als Solist konzertiert Bruno Canino mit Dirigenten wie Bruno Maderna, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Luciano Berio und Pierre Boulez sowie mit Orchestern wie dem New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia of New York, Philadelphia Orchestra, den Berliner Philharmonikern, dem Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rom, Orchestre National de France, Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam und Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala.

Bruno Canino ist Künstlerischer Leiter des Giovini Orchestra Genovese und der „Campus Internazionale di Musica” in Latina. Außerdem widmet er sich der zeitgenössischen Musik und verwirklichte verschiedene Projekte mit Pierre Boulez, Luciano Berio, Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, György Ligeti, Bruno Maderna, Luigi Nono and Sylvano Bussotti u.a. Bruno Canino war 24 Jahre lang Professor für Klavier am Mailänder Konservatorium und elf Jahre Professor für die Master Class und Moderne Kammermusik an der Musikhochschule Bern. Er gab auch Meisterkurse in Deutschland, Japan, Italien, Spanien, Frankreich, der Schweiz und alle drei Jahre Kurse für Fortgeschrittene in Seveso (Mailand).

Bruno Canino hat für die RCA, Deutsche Grammophon, Angel Records und Orfeo aufgenommen. Zu seinen letzten Einspielungen gehören J. S. Bachs Goldberg-Variationen, Paul Hindemiths Die Vier Temperamente, Felix Mendelssohns Kompositionen für Cello und Klavier mit Lynn Harrell, Werke von Prokofjew, Ravel und Igor Strawinsky mit Viktoria Mullova, das Gesamtwerk von Alfredo Casella (Stradivarius), Béla Bartóks Sonate für zwei Klaviere und Schlagzeug mit András Schiff und dem Amadinda Ensemble sowie das gesamte Klavierwerk von Claude Debussy.
