Info zu Bersa: Complete Piano Works, Vol. 1

Blagoje Bersa was a major figure in Croatian musical life, his compositions a compound of Mediterranean, Central European and Balkan elements. His piano music, of which this recording is Volume 1, reveals a rich diversity drawn from Classical and Romantic models, encompassing charming Chopinesque barcarolles, a melancholic Notturno, a stirring Liszt-inspired Fantaisie-Impromptu, beautiful balletic miniatures and the Brahmsian grandeur of the powerfully conceived Sonata in F minor. Goran Filipec, recent laureate of the Grand Prix du Disque of the Ferenc Liszt Society of Budapest for his album "Paganini Studies" (Naxos Records, 2016), is a musician who never fail to capture the hearts of music audiences and critics. Equally known for his interpretations of standard piano repertoire as for discoveries of forgotten musical gems, this sovereign pianist of fiery energy and profiled artistic personality cultivates a particular leaning towards the classical and romantic repertoire and works of pronounced virtuosity.

Goran Filipec, piano

Goran Filipec
was born in 1981 in Rijeka, Croatia. Already, during the first years of his musical education, he received early recognition as an extraordinary talent, performing numerous concerts in Croatia and abroad. His charismatic performances inspired praise from these world famous pianists: Ivo Pogorelich: “His great pianistic abilities and originality of musical ideas make this pianist unique and original.”

Oxana Yablonskaya, pianist and professor at the Julliard School of music: “I was extremely impressed by his high professionalism, great level of performance and artistic taste. He possesses very deep understanding of musical text and excellent technique.”

Goran Filipec is an extraordinary interpreter of Franz Liszt's piano music, and has dedicated a great part of his creative work to the great composer. His wide repertoire also consists of some of the most important cycles of the piano literature, including Liszt’s "Years of Pilgrimage"; the complete Chopin Etudes; the Paganini, Liszt and Busoni Etudes; and the five Beethoven piano concertos. Goran won the coveted Croatian national piano contest in 1995, 1997, and 1999, and was the winner of many other awards in his native country, including Second Place at the Lions Grand Prix in 1995; First Prize at the Istria Noblissima contest in 1997, 1999 and 2002, First P:rize at Lions Grand Prix in 1997, and First Place at the Rijeka Music Contest, in 1998.

He studied at the Mirkovich Academy with Professor Marina.
