Circumstances Trio debuted in late 2017 with the eponymous release Circumstances, which received rave reviews from domestic and international critics. Among other things it was featured as an "editors' pick" in Downbeat Magazine.

Three years later, the trio is now out with their second album “Re:”. An album that shows the trio's development and interaction, and summarises the results of three studio "sessions" in Rainbow Studio, Oslo.

Stylistically, the trio's music can be described as modern, lyrical jazz with rhythmic and harmonic dexterity and strong solo performances. The material is a conglomerate of self-written compositions, interpretations of jazz "standards" and compositions of icons in popular music.

Circumstances Trio
consists of Norwegian pianist Kjetil Jerve, British bassist Tim Thornton and Swedish drummer Anders Thorén. With paths crossing from uniquely different musical backgrounds they present a fresh attitude to the matter of jazz.

Exploring each others’ ideas to build landscapes of sound, stories are weaved through interplay and sparkling compositions. Uplifting, lyrical and playful with a slow-burning intensity.

Spring 2020 will mark the release of “Re:”. An album that documents the trios second meeting; an answer to the trios first release “Circumstances” and an opportunity to further explore the trios capabilities and growth together as coherent unit. It was recorded in legendary Rainbow Studio in Oslo in three short sessions in 2018/2019. The name Circumstances Trio was inspired by the unforeseen events and circumstances that led the trio together, and has become a cornerstone-term that continuously paves the path for the trio into the future.
