Mit der Veröffentlichung ihres neuen Albums „Arise“ setzt Lynne Arriale zum Sprung in die Riege der erfolgreichsten und bezwingendsten Künstler ihrer Generation an. Nach einer triumphalen internationalen Tour haben sich Arriale und ihr Trio in Studio-Klausur begeben und kehren mit einer Einspielung zurück, die zielsicher den Ton unserer Zeit trifft. „Arise“ ist der Nachfolger der sensationellen CD „Inspiration“, die den Spitzenplatz der US Jazz Radio Charts erklommen hatte, zur „Best Of 2002“ im New Yorker gekürt und in Deutschland mit dem „Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik“ ausgezeichnet wurde.

Lynne Arriale entfacht die Fantasie und raubt die Herzen ihrer Kritiker und ihres Publikums auf der ganzen Welt. „Es ist immer aufregend, wenn ein neuer Stern am Jazz-Firmament zu leuchten beginnt“, schreibt Ian Carr vom BBC Magazine. „Mit ihrem ganz persönlichen Piano-Stil etabliert sie sich auf der kurzen Liste bemerkenswerter zeitgenössischer Jazz-Keyboarder“, erklärt der Chicago Reader. „Eine der geistreichsten Ladies in der derzeitigen Swing-Szene. Bei allem, was sie in Angriff nimmt,. besitzt sie einen makellosen Anschlag, ein untadeliges Gespür für komplexe Rhythmen und eine Neugier, harmonische Wege zu erkunden“, berichtet Jazz Times.

Regelmäßig wird das Lynne Arriale Trio mit standing ovations bedacht, so wie beim Mary Lou Williams „Women In Jazz“ Festival 2002 im Kennedy Center. Die Washington Post lobte, wie das Trio „sich ungestraft zwischen Genre-Grenzen bewegte, indem es elegant und mit harmonischer Frische Bernstein, Ellington, Lennon/McCartney, Bacharach und Monk gegenüberstellte.“

Nachdem sie ihre musikalische Ausbildung schon mit vier Jahren begonnen hatte, erwarb Lynne Arriale einen Magisterabschluss in klassischer Komposition. In ihren Zwanzigern entdeckte sie die Improvisation und wandte sich dem Jazz zu, entwickelte zügig ihren eigenen Sound. „Meine klassischen Jahre hatten einen großen Einfluss auf mich“, erklärt Arriale. „Die Lehrer sagten immer zu mir: ‚Du musst diese Phrase singen’...Ich brauchte Jahre, bis ich meinen Fingern das Singen beigebracht hatte.“ Doch nun singen sie in der Tat, in wunderbarer Art und Weise. In einem Porträt aus dem Jahre 2002 bezeichnet der Billboard Arriale als „eine der wertvollsten Instrumentalistinnen der jungen Generation.“ Und Down Beat pries sie als „ein Energiebündel..., eine einzigartige Stimme als Pianistin und Leaderin.“

Von Adoptiveltern großgezogen erfuhr Arriale später, dass ihre leibliche Mutter eine professionelle Jazzsängerin gewesen war. Lynne meint: „Das war eine Enthüllung. Ich hatte mich schon immer gewundert, woher meine Leidenschaft für Melodie und Improvisation stammt.“ Vielleicht trägt ihre Herkunft ja auch zu ihren unverwechselbaren stimmlichen Qualitäten bei, die sie dadurch kultiviert, dass sie während des Komponierens und Übens die Melodie mitsingt, um , wie sie es nennt, „eine starke Bindung ans Gefühl“ zu erzielen. …

Pianist/composer Lynne Arriale’s career is graced by a love of melody and a joy of musical discovery. Arriale has performed on international concert and festival stages over the past 25 years. The consummate storyteller, she immediately connects with her listeners. JazzTimes wrote, "She achieves a special, deep connection with her audience, and the energy flows both ways. Arriale’s emotional authenticity allows her audience to feel and think along with her… Lynne Arriale’s music lies at the synaptic intersection where brain meets heart, where body meets soul. She is one of jazzdom’s most intensely unique voices."

At the core of Arriale’s appeal is her ability to communicate with her band and listeners. She has been called "The poet laureate of her generation" by Jazz Police and has been consistently praised as having a singular voice as a pianist, leader, composer, and arranger. "I really can't compare her to anyone," said recent collaborator and multi-Grammy winner Randy Brecker. "Her music transcends the word 'jazz' - it is just pure music."

Arriale was the first prize winner of the 1993 International Great American Jazz Piano Competition, and soon launched her touring and recording career. Her 14 albums as a leader have topped the Jazzweek Radio Charts; Inspiration and Arise- #1, Come Together #3, Nuance #4 and were included on numerous "Best Of" lists, including The New Yorker and United Press International. LIVE (CD/DVD) was named one of UPI’s Best Jazz CDs and among The New Yorker Magazine’s Best CDs of the year. Solo was named one of the top CDs of 2012 by JAZZIZ Magazine, and Convergence was named one of the top 50 CDs of 2011 by JazzTimes. Arriale was #13, #17 and #18 in the piano category for the 2015, 2016 and 2018 Downbeat Reader's Poll.

Arriale toured Japan with “100 Golden Fingers”, a group that included iconic jazz pianists Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, Monty Alexander, Cedar Walton, Kenny Barron, Harold Mabern, Roger Kellaway, Junior Mance and Ray Bryant. Arriale has performed and/or recorded with jazz greats Randy Brecker, George Mraz, Benny Golson, Rufus Reid, Larry Coyell and Marian McPartland, to name a few.

The world's great jazz festivals and concert stages have invited Lynne to perform, including five performances at the Kennedy Center and additional performances at Lincoln Center, Montreux, Burghausen, Gilmore, Spoleto Arts, Montreal, Monterey, North Sea, Stuttgart, Pori, San Francisco, Ottawa, Zagreb, Perth, Brisbane, Rouen, Cannes MIDEM, Sardinia, Rochester, Wigan, Poznan, Estoril, Palermo, Inverness, Cork and San Javier.

She has served as a faculty member of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops, the Centrum Port Townsend Jazz Workshop, the Thelonious Monk Institute in Aspen and numerous clinics and workshops worldwide, including the US, UK, Europe, Canada, Brazil and South Africa. She is a member and piano pedagogy representative of The Jazz Education Network and has adjudicated the Montreux Jazz Competition, American Pianists Association Fellowship Awards, The Kennedy Center’s Mary Lou Williams Competition and the Jacksonville Piano Competition. With jazz icon Toshiko Akiyoshi, she was a featured mentor at The Mary Lou Williams Emerging Artist Workshop at the Kennedy Center.
