"Father of the Bride" is the highly anticipated new album from Vampire Weekend, and is the band's fourth full length release. The 18-track album features the current single "Harmony Hall" as well as new track "Sunflower" featuring Steve Lacy of The Internet.
"Father of the Bride" closes a six-year gap since 2013's 'Modern Vampires Of The City' — a period during which the band's Ezra Koenig was anything but idle: In addition to touring the world and winning a Best Alternative Grammy for 'Modern Vampires,' Koenig released his Netflix anime series Neo Yokio, continued to host his Time Crisis show on Beats1, co-wrote and produced Beyonce's 'Hold Up,' all the while living the experiences and observations that would inform the next Vampire Weekend album.
Vampire Weekend made their sixth visit to Australia in 2018 headlining Byron Bay's annual Splendour In The Grass Festival. The announcement of Father Of The Bride is sure to spark much anticipation locally, as Vampire Weekend's first two albums have achieved Gold certification in Australia.
Father Of The Bride's title is something Koenig chose years back, well before recent significant developments in his life. In typical VW fashion, the title has multiple layers of meaning, expressing the band's signature paradox: creating songs that easily find a home on any playlist—or car radio, TV show, film soundtrack, airport PA, etc.— but reveal their complexities upon closer listening.

formed in New York City in 2006 when bandmates Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson, and Chris Baio met while attending Columbia University and realized their shared interest in punk rock and African music. After graduating, the band began recording its self-titled debut. The album received positive internet buzz before its official release, with the single “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” making it onto Rolling Stone’s 2007 list of “100 Best Songs of the Year.” Following the album’s release in 2008, Spin chose Vampire Weekend as “The Year’s Best New Band.” The band’s second album, Contra, was released in 2010, becoming Vampire Weekend’s first album to debut at the Number One spot on the Billboard 200, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. In 2013, the band released its third album, Modern Vampires of the City, to nearly identical success. The album debuted at the top of the charts (marking the first time an independent rock band has had two consecutive Number One releases) and earned the band its second Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. The album also topped Rolling Stone‘s list of the “50 Best Albums of 2013.”
