Die dänische Blockflötistin Clara Guldberg Ravn bringt mit den ersten 6 Flötensonaten von Martinus Ræhs ein Kleinod der Musikliteratur wieder in den Blick der interessierten Öffentlichkeit. Auf ihrem Debütalbum bietet die junge Flötistin zusammen mit ihren Ensemblepartnern Anna Paradiso, Mats Olofsson und Jonas Nordberg ein ebenso spannendes wie abwechslungsreiches Hörerlebnis.

Jede der 6 Sonaten bekommt durch die unterschiedliche Instrumentation einen eigenen Charakter, der durch das einfühlsame und pointierte Spiel unterstrichen wird. Damit wird diese Aufnahme ihrem Titel mehr als gerecht: „Who enchants this meeting so?“ – „Wer verzaubert dieses Treffen so?“ Wer wäre bei dieser Musik nicht verzaubert?

Von Barock bis Neue Musik, von Solisten bis zu großen Orchestern – wir streben eine vielseitige musikalische Bandbreite an. Ihnen allen gemein ist eine ausnehmend hohe Qualität der Interpretation und Einspielung. Einen inhaltlichen Schwerpunkt legen wir dabei auf die Entdeckung von unbekanntem Repertoire und neuen Interpretationen. So wie die musikalische Reise in die Welt zwischen Liebe und Wahnsinn: Das Bremer Ensemble »Los Temperamentos« hat sich mit einfühlsamen Liedern und virtuoser Instrumentalmusik auf »Amor y Locura« diesem Spannungsfeld gewidmet - bereits das zweite Album des Ensembles auf arcantus Musikproduktion.

Clara Guldberg Ravn
The Danish recorder player, Clara Guldberg Ravn (born 1992), studied with professor Dan Laurin at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. She completed her bachelor’s degree in 2015 and her master’s degree in 2017 and received her diploma in 2018. In the fall of 2015 she was a student at the Conservatoire Supérieur National Musique et Danse de Lyon, France, studying with professor Pierre Hamon. She has taken lessons for musicians such as Michala Petri, Maurice Steger, and Rolf Lislevand.

She has received several prizes, including a stipend from Augustinus Fonden, 2018, Kungliga Musikaliska Akademiens nationella Stipendium, 2017, Helge Ax:son Johnsons Stipendium, 2016, and Jakob Gades Talentpris, 2008. She has participated in competitions in Denmark, Sweden and Finland; winning at age 15 in 2008 a Gold Medal in the Danish competition, Berlingske Tidendes Klassiske Musikkonkurrence. In 2018 she won the first prize in the competition EAR-ly for early music singers and instrumentalists from the Nordic and Baltic countries. She performs frequently with a solo repertoire and in various chamber music constellations. See PROJECTS. ​

The release of her debut CD with the first six sonatas by Martinus Ræhs will be released on the record label, Arcantus, in October 2020. The CD is the first of two CDs with the complete flute sonatas by the Danish composer Martinus Ræhs (1702-1766). On the CD she is joined by Anna Paradiso, harpsichord and piano, Mats Olofsson, cello, and Jonas Nordberg, theorbo and baroque guitar. ​

Clara Guldberg Ravn is interested in how a musician’s sense of meaningfulness is transmitted and communicated to the audience during a concert. There are many kinds of extraordinary, touching and lasting concert experiences. The ones to aim for, as a musician—if they’re possible to create at all—are those that imbue the audience members with a sense of flow and elevate their spirits, leaving them in deeper contact with their feelings, encouraged and fortified enough to go out in the world and create and contribute with whatever means are available to them.

Mats Olofsson
is one of the leading Swedish cello players of his generation, appreciated for his versatile approach to all styles of music. He holds the position of principal cellist in the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Sweden, and is also a very active chamber musician. His extensive repertoire includes works ranging from jazz and folk music to baroque music and contemporary works with interactive media.

Mats Olofsson has toured as chamber musician all over the world; recent performances in USA, Canada, Japan, China, India have further established his reputation as one of the most interesting and versatile players around. He studied baroque cello in Boston and his interest in baroque music has lead to collaborations with leading performers such as Phoebe Carrai, Lars-Ulrik Mortensen, Dan Laurin and Richard Lester. He is also member of the ‘Stenhammar Quartet’, as well as of the baroque ensemble Paradiso Musicale and his stable members Dan Laurin, recorder, Anna Paradiso, harpsichord, Jonas Nordberg lute. With both ensembles he records regularly for BIS. He plays also with the ensemble ‘Pearls for Swines’, which has gained a lot of attention for his non-conventional performances in the field of contemporary music, and has received many prizes, such as the ‘Nordiska Komponistrådets Pris’. “Pearls for Swines” has commissioned more than 200 works and has recorded for Caprice and Phono Svecia.

Jonas Nordberg
is a lutenist mastering a wide range of plucked instruments from the 16th to 19th centuries. A graduate of the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Royal College of Music Stockholm, he has an active schedule in more than 25 countries, performing solo concerts, chamber music, staged performances and large ensemble work.

As a recording artist, 2015 saw his solo debut album for Eudora Records, ‘Music by de Visée, Weiss & Dufaut’ was released to critical acclaim worldwide. In 2017 ‘Heroines of love and loss’ was released on BIS Records featuring music by female composers and fictive heroines together with Ruby Hughes, soprano and Mime Yamahiro-Brinkmann, baroque cello, receiving a Diapason d’Or award. From 2018 onwards he records solo work exclusively for BIS Records, releasing Intavolatura di Chitarone featuring music by Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger (Gramophone Editor’s Choice) as his initial album in 2019.

His solo recital programs include the music of John Dowland, music for theorbo by Robert de Visée, French lute music juxtaposed with works by Silvius Leopold Weiss as well as the wizardry Italian Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger. Often these programs are mixed up with works by contemporary composers, creating a varied sound scape and a big range of expressions.

Together with soprano Ruby Hughes he performs all lute song repertoire, with a special focus on the Elizabethan Era and Italian monody. With viol player Liam Byrne he explores the music of Marin Marais and other French composers mixed with contemporary music for theorbo/viol & electronics. With electric guitar trio KROCK he lunges into contemporary music and staged performances.

He performs with ensembles such as Concerto Köln, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Concerto Copenhagen, Orfeo 55, Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, London Handel Orchestra, Insula Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra, Camerata Øresund, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Les Accents, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Rebaroque, Swedish Wind Ensemble, Ensemble 1B1, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra & Gävle Symphony Orchestra amongst several other period instrument chamber groups.

He has an extensive collaboration with choreographer Kenneth Kvarnström, resulting in six large scale stage works in recent years. The meeting between baroque music and contemporary dance gives the music a new dimension, a visual chamber music partner for the solo pieces and a way to communicate through physical gestures and impulses. In their most performed work, sofa(r), Nordberg and Kvarnström teamed up for a critically acclaimed duet combining elements of dance, baroque music for lute and theorbo, electronic music and speech in a dark world exploring death. This also marked his debut as a dancer.

He also works extensively with Swedish chamber ensemble Operabyrån, co-creating chamber operas and semi-staged performances featuring forgotten female composers. 2018-2020 the ensemble is artist in residence at Konserthuset Stockholm.

Anna Paradiso
was born in Bari (South of Italy) in 1976 and received a university education equally oriented towards music and humanities. She moved to Sweden in 2006 to follow her Swedish husband, recorder virtuoso Dan Laurin, and she is today one of the most prominent harpsichordists of her adoptive country. Anna has had an international career as PhD doctor in Latin and ancient Greek philology, teaching and researching, just to name a few institutions among the many, at Oxford University and at the Royal College of Technology in Stockholm. In 2008, however, Anna decided to dedicate her life completely to music. Within a short time, she established herself as a harpsichordist of great individuality and character, with concerts in many prestigious venues and festivals in Scandinavia as well as in England, Germany, France, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Finland, Norway, Spain, Poland, the USA, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Lebanon. During these last years, she has moreover developed a strong passion in performing on clavichord and fortepiano. She is also an accomplished modern pianist and baroque organ player. Anna studied at the conservatory in Bari, where she gained a solo diploma in piano (cum laude), under the guidance of Angela Annese, Emanuele Arciuli and Pasquale Iannone. At the same conservatory, she gained a solo diploma in harpsichord (full marks) and went on studying in numerous master-classes with Gordon Murray, professor at the conservatory in Vienna. Later on, Christophe Rousset provided important inspiration in the field of French music. She also received a Master in harpsichord at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Mayumi Kamata, studying, during this period, also with Enrico Baiano in Italy. Last but certainly not least, her own husband Dan Laurin has contributed to her knowledge and inspiration. Moreover, Anna’s independent study of original sources on baroque performance practice and thorough-bass has been a most decisive moment in her development. Thanks to this, she has created her own personal style, recognised with international praises.

As a soloist and continuo player, Anna Paradiso has appeared with many Scandinavian ensembles and orchestras (Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, Copenhagen Soloists, Rebaroque, Drottnigholm Theatre Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Norrbotten NEO, Höör Barock, GSO Baroque (Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra Baroque), Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, 1B1, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, etc.). Both as soloist and continuo-player, she has also performed, among others, with Philarmonia Moment Musical (Taipei), Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Birmingham Conservatory Orchestra, Radovlijca Festival ensemble. Her repertoire as soloist with orchestra spams from baroque to modern harpsichord concertos and to contemporary works. With Dan Laurin, she has formed a duo that tours internationally and which has recorded several CDs for the international label BIS.

With BIS, Anna records also as a soloist. Her two recordings of the keyboard sonatas by the Swedish baroque composer Johan Helmich Roman have received enthusiastic praises buy the international critics (vol. 2 was also awarded the American Record Guide Critics Choice 2016). Her new recording, which came out in June 2020 and contains the sonatas by Pietro Domenico Paradisi, has already received raving reviews, including being on the ‘recommended list’ of the prestigious magazine Gramophone. She has also been praised by the Swedish and the international critics for her clavichord and fortepiano performances contained in these 3 solo-recordings. As a soloist, she has obtained critical acclaim also recording the virtuosic harpsichord concerto by Bach BWV 1057, a contemporary harpsichord concerto by Vito Palumbo with Gävle Symphony Orchestra and, for Barn Cottage Records, a recital with a repertoire that spans from Frescobaldi to a modern concerto by Walter Leigh. Moreover, the internationally acclaimed first complete recording of JH Roman’s Golovin Suite, where Anna plays through bass (with Dan Laurin as conductor and the period orchestra Höör Barock) has received a Swedish grammy as ‘best classical recording of the year’. For BIS and with Dan Laurin, she has also successfully recorded all flute sonatas by Roman, 20th-century English sonatas with harpsichord and piano, French baroque chamber music, orchestral music by Vivaldi, Corelli and Telemann. Together with Paradiso Musicale, a Swedish baroque ensemble co-funded by Anna, she made an acclaimed début recording featuring music by Telemann, J. S. and C. P. E. Bach, which was ‘Record of the Month’ on BBC Music Magazine. Future recordings include: flute sonatas by the Danish composer Morten Ræs with recorder player Clara Guldberg Ravn on harpsichord and fortepiano; Telemann’s recorder sonatas with Dan Laurin; two recordings of Neapolitan baroque music, including an unknown harpsichord concerto.

Among the prominent musicians Anna has performed with, there are Hidemi Suzuki, Nils-Erik Sparf, Stefan Temmingh, Mario Caroli, Lena-Susanne Norin (Sequentia), Lorenzo Cavasanti, Jan Björanger, Mikhail Simonyan, Arureliusz Golinski, Francesco D’Orazio and, together with various symphony orchestras, Lisa Batiashvili, François Leleux, Lara St John, Jaime Martin, etc. ...
