Cuco releases his new album "Ridin" will arrive May 9th via Interscope Records. Along with the news, Cuco has shared “My 45” feat Jean Carter, a tribute to the bygone era of soul music that shaped his musical consciousness. This modern soul excursion reunites Cuco with fellow Angeleno Jean Carter, marking their first collaboration since “Bossa No Sé,” off his album Para Mi. “My 45” is accompanied by a music video featuring actor Xóchitl Gomez (Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Dancing With The Stars winner) as well as pro-skater Louie Lopez.

The album features production from producer-musician Tom Brenneck (Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse). Together, he and Cuco explore an organic sound. He lifts his already dreamy vocal range a full octave higher to maintain a rich neo-falsetto, and his lyrics move towards interpersonal relationships. Brenneck, known for his legendary guitar work with Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Menahan Street Band and contributions to Grammy-winning albums like Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black.

Cuco takes to heart the car culturalism that steers the entire record. “Everybody listens to music when they’re driving. Music is part of your commute, whether you’re in a good or bad mood. You’re ridin’ through the motion of your life where nothing is linear. All of my songs here are romantic, whether that’s in a super-animated way or sad and heartbroken.”

Hawthorne, California-based singer, songwriter, and producer Cuco has been challenging musical conventions since his emergence. From the lo-fi bedroom pop of his 2016 debut mixtape “Wannabewithu” to his dreamy first full album, 2019’s “Para Mi,” Cuco has methodically crafted a distinctive Mexican-American musical identity characterized by bilingual vocals, romantic themes, and psychedelic undertones.

With “Ridin'” – released May 9th – Cuco presents an evolution toward a more intimate sound that balances soulful authenticity with organic instrumentation, featuring lyrics that explore heartbreak, joy, and cultural heritage.

The “old school, romantic” aesthetic of “Ridin'” represents a continuation of elements present since his 2017 single “Lo Que Siento.” As Cuco notes, “Even with my synths, if you played those melodies on piano or organ, you’d have a soul record.”

Working alongside producer-musician Tom Brenneck (known for collaborations with Bruno Mars and Amy Winehouse), “Ridin'” serves as Cuco’s thoughtful homage to Southern California’s cultural past – incorporating AM radio influences, Chicano soul classics, elaborate horn arrangements, and vintage automotive culture – while simultaneously offering his mature perspective on relationships and connection.
