Composed 25 years after the celebrated work of the same name by Pergolesi, and for the same forces, the Stabat Mater by Nicola Logroscino (pronounced “Logròscino”) belongs to the long list of compositions born of the Neapolitan school, beginning with the model by Alessandro Scarlatti (1723). Although inspired by its illustrious precedents, this work distinguishes itself in its strong theatrical character, derived from the author’s long experience in opera (especially comic opera), of which he was a leading figure until the mid-eighteenth century. His Stabat Mater thus seems to be a veritable synthesis of operatic style, whereby lengthy arias alternate with lively duets, and passages of almost folk origins alternate with very simple recitatives. Giulia Semenzato, soprano, and Raffele Pe, countertenor, are the protagonists of this important rediscovery. This album – the first monographic recording dedicated to the composer – includes a brilliant cantata for soprano as well as a concerto for flute (played by Marcello Gatti), a work that represents a precious addition to the repertoire for this instrument. The ensemble “Talenti Vulcanici”, under the direction of Stefano Demicheli, deliver an instrumental performance of stylistic coherence and calibrated virtuosity, following their successful recording, Arias for Nicolino (A427), praised by critics for its “theatrical tautness and élan”, and “a reliable sense of pacing, detail and texture”. Giulia Semenzato
is a soprano recognized for her interpretation of baroque and classic music, as well as music spanning into the 19th century music. She earned her degree with full marks in singing at the “Benedetto Marcello” Conservatory in Venice where she studied under Silvia da Ros, Giancarlo Pasquetto and Silva Stella. In 2015 she graduated with honours at Schola Cantorum in Basel specializing in Baroque music with Rosa Dominguez. She also attended masterclasses with Margareth Honig, Bernadette Manca di Nissa, Paul Triepels, Christopher Robson, Cinzia Forte, Vivica Genaux, Gemma Bertagnolli, Roberto Pasquetto, M.K.Kiehr, Ana Rodrigo, E.Giussani.She studied Jazz with F.Bertazzo Hart and A.London at VenetoJazz Summer School.

Winner of the International Competition “Toti dal Monte” 2012 in Treviso with the role of Elisetta in Cimarosa’s Matrimonio Segreto, she consequently debuted in Teatro di Treviso (2012), Teatro di Ferrara, Teatro di Rovigo (2013), Lucca and Ravenna (2014). In July 2013 she took part to the Academie of the Aix-en-Provence Festival and consequently she was chosen for the title-role in Elena by F.Cavalli in Theatre Operà de Lille, Lisbon, Renne, Anger, Nantes with the orchestra “Cappella Mediterranea” directed by L. Alarcon. Winner of the Cesti Singing Competition in Innsbrück 2014 and “Premio Farinelli” for the best singer at the Concorso Lirico Città di Bologna 2013. In February 2015 she debuted Clelia at Teatro alla Scala in Mozart’s Lucio Silla under the baton of Marc Minkowski and she performed Abra in Juditha Triumphans in Venice’s La Fenice conducted by Alessandro De Marchi. She was also Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte in Florence Opera Maggio Fiorentino; Ordogno in Conti’s Don Quishotte under René Jacobs in Paris Philarmonie, Theater an der Wien and Cologne Philarmonie; Venere/Proserpina in Rossi’s Orfeo with Raphael Pichon in Nancy, Versailles. Carolina in Matrimonio Segreto at the Innsbruck Festwochen der Alte Musik with Alessandro De Marchi, Barbarina at San Carlo di Napoli .She sang Gloria by Vivaldi together with Sara Mingardo and Caldara’s Morte e sepoltura di Cristo, The Mozart’s Coronation Mass on tour in Spain with Fabio Biondi. She interpreted some new rediscovered Cantatas by Stradella under the direction of René Jacobs at Fondazione Cini in Venice. In July 2014 she performed in the title-role in Cavalli’s Eritrea under S.Montanari at Teatro La Fenice, Venice. Recently she sang Handel’s Messiah, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Mozart’s Requiem with La Barocca and the conductor Ruben Jais. She took part in other productions such as: Sandrina in Piccinni’s “La Cecchina” (Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo 2011, Teatro Malibran 2010); Maria in Nino Rota’s “I due timidi” (Teatro Malibran 2011); Maria in Bernstein’s “West Side Story” with Orchestra JFutura (2011); Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni for Biennale Musica di Venezia (2010); Nicole in the contemporary opera “Il falso tradimento” by P.Semenzato (2012). She recorded "Sospiri d'amore", duets from operas by Francesco Cavalli, together with Raffaele Pe with Claudio Cavina and La Venexiana.

Present and future engagements include: Gloria by F.Poulenc at Teatro Regio in Turin, Nannetta at Teatro La Scala (Metha/Michieletto) and NCPA of Beijing, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at Teatro La Scala and Teatro La Fenice Despina in Così fan tutte with Marc Minkowski at the Drottningholm Opera Festival, Michal in Saul by Handel at Theater an der Wien, Messiah by Handel with Vaclav Luks. Giulia graduated in Law (Bachelor) at University of Udine (2012).

Raffaele Pe
is among the most admired countertenors of the new generation. His voice embraces a varied repertoire that spans from the lesser-known Recitar Cantando, up to Baroque Operas and Contemporary Music. Born in Lodi, he started his studies in singing and organ at the age of six when he was a chorister in Lodi Cathedral. He then continued his training in London and Bologna under Fernando Opa Cordeiro. ​

He recently debuted in Vienna in Handel’s Orlando at Theater an der Wien (Guth, Antonini), in Venice at Teatro La Fenice in Vivaldi’s opera Orlando Furioso (Ceresa, Fasolis), in Florence at Opera di Firenze in Vinci’s Didone Abbandonata (Colonna, Ipata), at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival as protagonist of Cavalli’s Hipermestra (Vick, Christie), and at Opera Lausanne with Diego Fasolis and I Barocchisti for the recital L'art des Cstrats chez Vivaldi ​

Notably, in the latest seasons he also sang Nerone in Handel’s Agrippina at The Grange Opera Festival (Sutcliffe, Howarth with Academy of Ancient Music), Handel’s Rinaldo at Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona (Spirei, Dantone with Accademia Bizantina) and also Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream by Britten for the same theater (De Capitani Bruni, Cilluffo). He also debuted at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in Veneziano’s John Passion conducted by Antonio Florio and at the Berlin Philharmonie for the launch of his first solo album The Medici Castrato (Glossa 2015). His American debut dates back to 2015 as male protagonist of Cavalli’s Veremonda at Spoleto Festival US (Vizioli, Carperé). ​

Raffaele has collaborated with some of the most relevant conductors of the international scene like, Jordi Savall, William Christie, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Nicholas McGegan, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Giovanni Antonini, Ottavio Dantone, Diego Fasolis, Alessandro De Marchi, Antonio Florio. ​

Among his future engagements, Raffaele will be Arsace in Handel’s Partenope at Teatro Real de Madrid, Nerone in Monteverdi’s Poppea at Teatro Colon di Buenos Aires (Spinosi), the title role in Handel’s Tamerlano (Howarth, Alden) at The Grange Festival, and the title role in Handel’s Arbace at Halle Handel Festival, Orfeo in Porpora’s Orfeo at Festival della Valle d’Itria (Gasparon, Petrou); finally in the new season he will be the protagonist of Melani’s Empio Punito in Pisa at Teatro Verdi (Spirei, Ipata). ​

Since Janury 2019 Raffaele’s new solo album Giulio Cesare. A Baroque Hero released for the label Glossa is in the top 20 best classical album of the year for several European magazines and newspapers. The recital is accompanied by La Lira di Orfeo, a baroque orchestra founded by him and here conducted by Luca Giardini.
