Los Angeles born and raised decedents of music royalty from the Jazz and R&B worlds connect on “I Left My Heart In Ladera”, multiple Grammy Award nominee Terrace Martin and Alex Isley’s love letter to the Ladera and Crenshaw neighborhoods of LA. Alex, a literal student of music, displays classic R&B influenced vocals on the first single & video “Paradise”, a cover of Sade’s classic hit and pairs perfectly with Terrace who adds his eclectic musicianship to create a R&B/Jazz hybrid album sure be a timeless staple.

Among the standout tracks is “2 Step In The Living Room,” which is an essential cut to add to a playlist promoting Black love. Isley sings about wanting to return to simpler times with her partner, when their love was strong and worries were few.

Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Robert Glasper and pianist Paul Cornish appear on I Left My Heart In Ladera as guests.

The former appears on the groove-based jazz title track, while the latter plays a rich piano on the lulling “La Brea & Stocker.”

Regarding collaborating with Isley, Martin wrote in a post, “We didn’t hold back anything musically on this album. @LoveAlexIsley is the first artist in years to actually challenge me and pushed me to be better.”

The project borrows its name from the Ladera Heights neighborhood, and the LA natives are seen posing in front of the infamous “Ladera White House” for the cover art. They haven’t shared any additional details such as the tracklist or guest musicians, but according to Terrace, “A few of LA’s finest are on this album,” which he hinted on Twitter. He also gave props to his lovely collaborator whom he previously called “the soothing voice of Los Angeles” upon the release of “Paradise.”

I Left My Heart In Ladera is a dream realized for fans, too. Any opportunity to hear more Alex Isley is a major win. This release will be Isley’s second joint album, following last year’s gorgeous and glorious Marigold made with producer Jack Dine.

A three-time GRAMMY-nominated artist/producer/multi-instrumentalist from the Crenshaw District, Terrace Martin is renowned as being one of the top jazz musicians in the world and has become a creative engine at the epicenter of LA's progressive hip-hop scene. His noteworthy production has included major collaborations with Kendrick Lamar (good kid, M.A.A.D. city & the GRAMMY-winning To Pimp a Butterfly), Travis Scott, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Herbie Hancock, and many other influential artists. Among the most versatile musicians and producers of his generation, Terrace's path is leading him in parallel with the greats including Quincy Jones and Dr. Dre, while also launching his vibrant, progressive, genre-crossing record label, Sounds of Crenshaw.

Alex Isley
Hailing from Los Angeles, Alex Isley comes from a musically-rich and versatile family. Her maternal grandmother was an opera singer, and began classically-training Alex at age 12, while her father, Ernie, and his brothers, are collectively the R&B/Funk pioneers, The Isley Brothers. Alex has collaborated with an array of artists, from Terrace Martin to Moses Sumney to Kendrick Lamar; she sang vocals on Lamar’s 2016 Grammy-winning, “These Walls”. She’s also featured on PJ Morton’s ‘The Piano Album’ (on ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ as a duet with Morton). In November 2019, Alex and producer, Jack Dine, released a joint EP entitled ‘Wilton’. They followed with their singles, ‘Gone’, ‘Good & Plenty’ with Masego, “Mine”, and a later, a Good & Plenty Remix, with Lucky Daye. In 2020, Alex performed her own NPR Tiny Desk (Home Edition) and was featured on HBO’s ‘Insecure’ series.

In March 2022, Alex lent vocals to Lucky Daye’s latest album, Candydrip, as well as PJ Morton’s album, ‘Watch The Sun’, performing on “Still Believe”, alongside PJ and Jill Scott. Most recently, Alex released the highly-anticipated joint album with Jack, ‘Marigold’.
