Oslo Philharmonic, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Poing

Biographie Oslo Philharmonic, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Poing

The Oslo Philharmonic
founded in 1919, maintains a rich musical tradition and has from the outset been able to count on a large and committed audience. Under con- ductors such as Georg Schnéevoigt, Ignaz Neumark and Issay Dobrowen the orchestra soon reached a high standard. World-famous conductors, composers and soloists have made guest appearances, thus helping the Norwegian capital to keep abreast of inter- national musical trends. After the Second World War the orchestra slowly but surely gained an international reputation with conductors such as Odd Grüner-Hegge and Øivin Fjeldstad. Over the years the orchestra has had many fine conductors and, under the baton of Mariss Jansons, became renowned as one of the best orchestras in the world. This was reinforced while André Previn was principal conductor (2000-2006). With Jukka-Pekka Saraste, who succeeded him in August 2006, the orchestra has al- ready enjoyed great success both at home and on tours.
