Der kanadische Cellist Cameron Crozman präsentiert Ricercari, ein höchst originelles Album für Cello solo.

Gabriellis Ricercari tauchten 1689 aus dem Verborgenen auf und läuteten den Beginn der Musik für unbegleitetes Cello ein. Sie dienen als Inspiration für sechs neue Werke kanadischer, französischer, kolumbianischer und amerikanischer Komponisten, die von Crozman in Auftrag gegeben wurden, dessen eigene Erkundung als siebtes Stück in dieses einzigartige Programm aufgenommen wurde.

"Gabriellis Ricercari zu spielen, hat sich immer wie das Betreten eines Labyrinths angefühlt", sagt Crozman. "Gabrielli hätte wirklich keinen besseren Titel für diese Stücke wählen können als das italienische Wort, das so viel bedeutet wie 'auf der Suche sein'. Die Werke bieten sowohl den Interpreten als auch den Zuhörern die Möglichkeit, in eine Zeit zurückzureisen, in der Musik für Solocello noch eine brandneue Idee war."

Cameron ist fasziniert von der historischen Aufführungspraxis und der Erkundung weniger bekannter Werke, beschäftigt sich aber auch mit zeitgenössischer Musik und arbeitet mit weltbekannten Komponisten wie Kaija Saariaho und Peteris Vasks zusammen. Er hat eine Reihe neuer, ihm gewidmeter Werke uraufgeführt, von Solos bis hin zu Konzerten, und gibt aktiv neue Musik bei kanadischen Komponisten wie Alexina Louie und Kelly-Marie Murphy in Auftrag.

A cellist “with a rich imagination and a keen mind” (Diapason), Cameron Crozman is the recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts 2021 Virginia Parker Prize and CBC/Radio-Canada’s 2019–2020 Classical Revelation. He regularly appears in recital and as a soloist with major orchestras in North America and Europe and shares the stage with world-renowned artists, including James Campbell, James Ehnes, Augustin Hadelich, and André Laplante. After his studies with Paul Pulford in Canada, Crozman attended the Paris Conservatoire in the class of Michel Strauss, and he is a 2016-2017 laureate of Gautier Capuçon’s Classe d’excellence de violoncelle. He has released recordings on the ATMA Classique and Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo labels. His performances have been broadcast on CBC, Radio France, and Medici.tv. Crozman is the founder and artistic director of ClassicalValley—a festival combining music and wine in the Okanagan Valley—and the Edeta Arts International Chamber Music Festival in Llíria, Spain, a UNESCO Creative City of Music.
