Al Green gilt neben Bobby Womack, Marvin Gaye, Barry White und Curtis Mayfield zu den größten Stimmen des Soul. "The Hi Records Singles Collection" kommt als drei Alben zum Preis von 1, enthält die besten Songs und ist dazu eine Deutschland-exklusive Best Of mit Bonus Tracks und deutschsprachigen Linernotes vom Musikspezialisten der Süddeutschen Zeitung. 1969 traf Al Green den Produzenten des Labels Hi Records, Willie Mitchell. Mit ihm gemeinsam entstand Greens erster Nummer-Eins-Hit "Tired Of Being Alone". In der Folge nahmen sie das Album "Gets Next To You" (1970) auf und erreichten in den USA Goldstatus. Das daraufhin veröffentlichte Album "Let's Stay Together" von 1972 wurde ebenfalls ein großer Erfolg: der Titelsong erreichte die Top 10 der amerikanischen Charts. Noch im selben Jahr erschien das Album "I'm Still In Love With You", gefolgt von "Call Me" in 1973. Al Green avancierte damit zum Superstar des Soul und R&B.
