Info for Cantar de novo

This is the new album from the Brazilian music quintet founded by Julien Doumenjou in 2014. It's a third opus that draws on years of interpreting the great names of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) and a constantly renewed repertoire. This time, with the exception of 'Construção', a wild song by Chico Buarque and a real tour de force for its performers, the group offers its own original compositions. Bossa nova, samba, choro, waltz and even a nod to Mozart - everything is present in an explosion of colour and enthusiasm, made all the more infectious by the fact that the quintet has invited prestigious musicians and friends from the classical, jazz and MPB worlds to join them.

For the occasion, the band is joined by a host of guests, including singers, brass, woodwind and string ensembles, as well as personalities such as Camille Bertault, Robin Mansanti, Caloé, Emmanuel Donzella, Charlotte Planchou, François Raison, Eugénie Loiseau, Angela Strandberg and Baptiste Hec.

A Banda" is an acoustic group of popular Brazilian music founded by Julien Doumenjou two years ago. Their repertoire covers a wide range of styles (sambas, choros, bossa, waltzes, etc.), from the 1920s and 30s (Pixinguinha, Noel Rosa, etc.) to the 70s (Edu Lobo, Toquinho, Chico Buarque, etc.), and includes many classics by Tom Jobim and Baden Powell.

In the United States, he accompanied, as a banjo player, the folk singer Bill O'Neal for one year. Back in France, he mainly led three bands: "Jive at Five" a vocal swing band with singer Camille Bertault, "The bitch and the boys" a tribute band that highlights the vocal art of Brian Wilson, and finally "A Banda", a quintet of Brazilian popular music that he has been directing for four years and with whom he recorded two albums, "A Banda em Paris" and "Saudade" with Jean-Marc Sauvagnargues the drummer/singer of "Fatals Picards".

He crossed Bossa Flor's path in February 2020 by participating in a concert by Emmanuel Donzella (and Andrea Monteiro), an encounter that would be followed by other projects, including of a recording in the album « Brassens dans tous ses états » (2021).
