Sabine Ambos
Born in Wiesbaden, the recorder player Sabine Ambos first studied as a young student in Frankfurt with Michael Schneider and in Milan with Pedro Memelsdorff. She received scholarships from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and the DAAD and was awarded national and international prizes for her compellingly expressive playing. She was the first recorder player to be awarded first prize at the Lenzewski Competition in Frankfurt, as well as the special prize for the most qualified performance of a work from the 20th century.

After completing her concert diploma “with distinction” and her concert exam in Frankfurt, she taught for several years at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. From 2007 to 2010 Sabine Ambos was artistic director of Live Music Now Frankfurt. Since 2010 she has been engaged in much acclaimed productions of the Frankfurt Opera and projects of the Mutare Ensemble.

Several modern recorder compositions are dedicated to her, such as the solo Sisyphos by Gerhard Müller-Hornbach, the Ambos-Toccata by Fulvio Caldini, Mondgeflüster by Diana Čemerytė and the recorder concerto ex silentio by Ji Young Kang. In 2018 she played the world premiere of Violeta Dinescu’s zerreißt, zerbricht, springt ... for recorder solo.

Major highlights in her solo and chamber music career include invitations to NDR Hamburg, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Bayreuth Festival “Zeit für Neue Musik,” the Kunststation St. Peter Köln and concert tours to Barcelona, Brussels, Tbilisi and the Goethe-Institut in New York.

Since 2005 she has worked closely with the accordionist Mirjana Petercol.

Mirjana Petercol
The accordion concert soloist Mirjana Petercol was born on the Istrian peninsula on the Adriatic Sea. At an early age she received her first musical training at the local music school and conservatory. She subsequently received her diploma, master’s degree and concert soloist training at the universities of music in Hanover and Essen, followed by further qualifications as a church musician, choir director and elementary teacher as well as in the field of music medicine. She also holds a Master of Music in Medieval Music from the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.

Mirjana Petercol is a fellowship holder of the Deutsche Richard-Wagner-Gesellschaft as well as a winner of the international “Concorso Citta di Castelfidardo”.

In addition to her busy international concert schedule as a soloist (Belle-art Seattle, Tage der Neuen Musik Hannover, Amstelkerk Amsterdam) and chamber musician (Mutare Ensemble, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker), she also enjoys teaching. She teaches accordion at the music academies in Kassel and Wiesbaden and at the University of Kassel. She also teaches at international accordion courses such as the International Summer Courses in Kristiansand, Norway, Musica Viva in Italy and Ljetna Skola Pula in Croatia and is a juror at competitions. Through her constant search for perfection in sound, her artistic fascination also extends to composers who have written various works for her, including Willem Schulz, Violeta Dinescu and Gerd Lisken. She has also participated in numerous documentary projects, including the opera Wir sind daheim by Moritz Eggert and the documentary film Im weißen Rössl at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden. Mirjana Petercol is dedicated to animal welfare.
