On Sweet Melancholy, the selections include compositions by English composers which focus around the German idea of Weltschmerz, or the weariness caused by the ills of the world. Dance settings and fantasies by Thomas Lupo, Henry Purcell, John Hingeston, William Byrd, and more are featured here. The Cellini Consort was founded by three gambists, Goals Eketorp, Brian Franklin, and Thomas Goetschel in 2012. Since then the ensemble has explored the music of the Renaissance and Baroque, filling each performance with their originality and freshness.

Das von den drei Gambisten Tore Eketorp, Brian Franklin und Thomas Goetschel im Jahr 2012 gegründete cellini consort begeisterte seine Zuhörer vom ersten Konzert an durch die auffallende Spielfreude und die bemerkenswerte Harmonie im Zusammenspiel. So erhielt das cellini consort direkt nach dem ersten öffentlichen Auftritt im Rahmen des Festivals für Alte Musik Zürich das Angebot einer CD-Aufnahme in Koproduktion mit SRF 2 Kultur. Es folgten mehrere Auftritte und die intensive Probenarbeit im Hinblick auf diese erste CD-Produktion. Die drei Musiker zeichnen sich durch grosse Leiden-schaft für die Gambenmusik der Renaissance und des Barock, durch die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit den Werken und ihrer Ausführung, sowie durch langjährige Erfahrung im Bereich der historischen Aufführungs-praxis aus. Dies lässt im Moment des gemeinsamen Konzertierens Raum für Spontaneität, wodurch die Musik wieder in ihrer ursprüng-lichen Frische erklingen kann.
