The two artists bring the world of the great Karol Szymanowski - whose anniversary will be commemorated on March 29, 2017 - to life before our ears. His music reflects the spirit of his time while drawing inspiration from ancient sources. It derives its power from the traditions of his homeland, but remains universal. And all of this can be heard in the playing of the two young, prize-winning musicians: sophisticated yet down-to-earth, incredibly sensual yet clearly structured – a true discovery!

Marie Radauer-Plank
Born in Salzburg, the violinist Marie-Stephanie Radauer-Plank received her earliest violin lessons at the age of four. She became a junior student of Benjamin Schmid and Lukas Hagen at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. After completing her secondary schooling she enrolled at the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover and studied under Ulf Schneider and at the Chapelle Royale Reine Elisabeth under Augustin Dumay. In 2014 she obtained a degree in violin performance under Ulf Schneider.

She has also obtained valuable artistic insights from well-known concert artists and teachers, among them Thomas Brandis, Hatto Beyerle, Christiane Hutcap, Jean-Jaques Kantorow, Berent Korfker, Konrad Other, Igor Ozim, Eduard Schmieder and the Artemis Quartet.

She has versatile interests and also studied Baroque violin with Reinhard Goebel, and has performed with ensembles such as Concerto Melante and Ensemble Diderot.

Marie Radauer-Plank won Second Prize at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig and has won prizes at many other international competitions, including the Federation of German Industries Kulturkreis Competition, the Gradus Competition in Vienna and the International Louis Spohr Competition in Weimar.

Her busy career as a concert artist has taken her to many European countries, Japan and the United States. As a soloist, she has performed with ensembles such as the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra della Accademia Mahler and the iPalpiti Chamber Orchestra. She has appeared in chamber music recitals with artists such as Julius Berger, Wolfram Christ, Leonid Gorokhov, Lukas Hagen, Tatjana Masurenko, Hagai Shaham and members of the Berlin Philharmonic.

She and pianist Henrike Brüggen founded Duo Brüggen-Plank in 2007 and they have given many recitals in Germany and other European countries.

Marie Radauer-Plank received a scholarship from the French Banque Populaire Natixis Foundation. She plays a 1746 Dom Nicolo Amati violin.

Henrike Brüggen
A native of Stadtoldendorf, Germany, Henrike Brüggen began playing the piano as a six-year-old. She became a pupil of Heidi Köhler (Hanover) when she was 15.

After completing her secondary schooling, she continued studying with Heidi Köhler and subsequently with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Hanover Musikhochschule. After earning a Bachelor of Music degree with honors, Henrike Brüggen continued her studies at the Detmold Musikhochschule under Anatol Ugorski, and completed her piano performance degree there.

Henrike Brüggen has been a lecturer at the Musikhochschule in Hanover, the Musikhochschule in Munich and at the Leopold- Mozart-Zentrum in Augsburg.

She has earned commendations at several piano competitions, including the Steinway Piano Competition, the nationwide “Jugend musiziert” competition in the solo piano and chamber music categories and at the International Piano Campus Competition in Paris. She was also a scholarship recipient of the Oskar and Vera Ritter Foundation and German Music Competition for Soloists (Berlin), and was chosen to perform in the German Music Council's National Selection of Concerts for Young Artists.

Henrike Brüggen has performed as a soloist with ensembles such as Sinfonia Varsovia and the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, and appeared at many music festivals including the Schwetzingen and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festivals. She has also recorded with the Deutschland Radio, NDR and SWR broadcasters. Henrike Brüggen gained valuable artistic impetus from internationally recognized artists and ensembles such as Sándor Falvai, Gyöngyi Keveházi, Thomas Brandis, the Alban Berg Quartet, Hatto Beyerle and Ulf Schneider.

She has long been dedicated to chamber music performance. In 2007, Henrike Brüggen and violinist Marie Radauer-Plank founded Duo Brüggen-Plank and have performed successfully in Germany and abroad ever since. Henrike Brüggen also performs with a wide range of ensembles and chamber music groups.
