This album contains selections from our Odyssey tour, which took NYO Canada to prestigious venues across Canada and Spain. The recording features Under Sea, Above Sky, an original composition by Canadian composer Jared Miller, Mahler’s arrangement of Symphony No. 5, and Sinfonia Sacra by Andrzej Panufnik. Under the baton of Maestro Michael Francis, this album was recorded live in Montréal.

National Youth Orchestra of Canada
Founded in 1960, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada is the country’s preeminent training ground for musicians aged 16 to 28 who are preparing for a professional career in classical music. Internationally recognized as one of the finest orchestral programs in the world, NYO Canada provides the most in-depth, comprehensive training anywhere. The program is unrivalled in its influence; almost 40% of the members of Canadian ensembles are NYO Canada alumni.

Each year the country’s finest young talents compete in the TD Bank Financial Group’s National Auditions for a coveted spot in the orchestra. Successful applicants participate in an intensive Training Session where a world-class faculty and an internationally renowned conductor rehearse a challenging professional repertoire. Following the Training Session the orchestra embarks on a National Tour and performs in some of Canada’s most prestigious concert halls.

Fondé en 1960, l’Orchestre national des jeunes du Canada est la source de formation la plus reconnue au pays pour les jeunes musiciens et musiciennes de 14 à 28 ans qui envisagent une carrière professionnelle dans le monde de la musique classique. Reconnu à l’échelle internationale comme l’un des meilleurs programmes orchestraux au monde, l’ONJC offre la formation la plus approfondie et la plus complète qui soit. L’influence que porte le programme est vraiment inégalée : près de 40 % des membres des ensembles orchestraux canadiens sont des anciens et anciennes de l’ONJC.

Chaque année, les jeunes talents les plus prometteurs concourent dans le cadre des auditions nationales Groupe financier Banque TD pour obtenir un poste convoité au sein de l’orchestre. Les candidats et candidates choisis participent à une session de formation intensive dans le cadre de laquelle un corps enseignant de classe mondiale et un chef d’orchestre de renommée internationale leur font répéter un répertoire professionnel exigeant. Après la session de formation, l’orchestre entreprend une tournée nationale et se produit dans certaines des salles de concert les plus prestigieuses au Canada.
