Info for A Model Life

Lonely Robot, the project masterminded by producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (It Bites, Frost*), returns with its 5th studio album ‘A Model Life’. Broadening his sonic palette, John explores new territory on this record, crafting sounds more expansive in nature but never lacking his inherent feel for big melodies and even bigger choruses. From the introspective title track, to the soaring and epic ‘Duty Of Care, this a record unlike anything in Mitchell’s catalogue. Once again joined by drummer extraordinaire Craig Blundell (Steve Hackett), ‘A Model Life’ is yet another brilliant entry into an already impressive career.

“Making ‘A Model Life’ was very much a lifeline and indeed wake up call at the end of a particularly personally challenging couple of years. Creating it made me realise that ultimately, life is impermanent and the one true thing that gives me a focus and anchor is and has always been music. Long may that be the case.” (John Mitchell)

"It is true that John Mitchell does have his own signature sound that pervades all his musical efforts. For his many fans, it is lovely to report that A Model Life is a Lonely Robot album that they will have no problem in embracing, alongside his four previous releases. Progressive pop full of emotion and range, with his guitar playing back to sounding as good as ever, fully integrated keyboards and percussion, and his trademark production standards maintained throughout all ten tracks. The more you listen, the more rewarding the album becomes, as befits any quality artistic endeavour. For those who have yet to succumb to the charms of Lonely Robot, I would urge you to approach the album with fresh ears and savour its delights. John has once again bared his heart and soul and produced some top drawer, iconic melodic, progressive pop music in the process. Welcome back, John! A Model Life is a resounding success!"

John Mitchell aka Lonely Robot
is a man with a rich musical heritage and history - from musician and vocalist, to songwriter and producer. With bands like Arena, Frost*, Kino, It Bites and Lonely Robot, to name but a few, Mitchell has left his mark on the current progressive rock scene and has been involved in dozens of recordings. He is also a respected producer & mixer, running Outhouse Studios in the UK and working with artists as diverse as You Me At Six, Enter Shikari, Alter Bridge, Asia, Don Broco, Funeral For A Friend, McFly & much more. Now, Lonely Robot are set to release their fourth album ‘Feelings Are Good’ on the 17th July 2020, a fresh start following the conclusion of the ‘The Astronaut Trilogy’ with 2019’s “Under Stars.

“‘Feelings Are Good’ is a bit of a departure from the first three Lonely Robot albums or ‘The Astronaut Trilogy’ as it has now lovingly become known”, John explains. “On ‘Feelings Are Good’, I wanted to explore more personal themes and the songs are very much about individual experiences and narratives that I believe had been the cornerstones, good and bad, to my life. The long tall and short of it is that we’re back on planet Earth, and I have a personal lyrical axe to grind!” Musically, Mitchell has kept his signature sound and further refined it into lush modern prog and rock anthems that perfectly combine complex and accessible elements with astonishing dynamics and impeccable, timeless songwriting. The artwork is once again by Paul Tippett / Vitamin P (Black Star Riders, Frost*), and John says of the cover: "The artwork is meant to be a little disturbing.

The closed eyes and taped over mouth are supposed to represent how people are very guarded with their emotions and what better way of emoting them than through the windows to the soul and the smile?" Unexpected to some, Mitchell plans to finally bring Lonely Robot to the stage! If the Corona crisis does not interfere – Lonely Robot shall perform live in UK, Germany, and the Netherlands in December 2020 presenting current material as well as “Under Stars”.
