Info for Robbers & Cowards / Complete Cowards
The Long Beach band led by frontman Nathan Willett began teasing this re-release back in July, when they unveiled a new track called “Loyalty.” The song was recorded during the Robbers & Cowards sessions, but was never finished. The track joins another Robbers & Cowards era lost cut, “There Goes The Night.” Two decades later, the band was inspired to return to the studio and finish them off.
Frontman Nathan Willett said “Loyalty” is from Cold War Kids’ first national tour in 2005, when the band played it live before ever tracking it in the studio. “The song has this instant energy, this simplicity. It’s somehow bluesy and punky like The Clash,” he said. “When we recorded it this year I thought, ‘What were we thinking that we didn’t put this on the first album? It’s so good!’”
The group—which also includes Matt Maust, David Quon, Matthew Schwartz, and Joe Plummer—played some massive shows this summer. Back in July, they played a hometown show at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, supporting Young the Giant. The tour, which wrapped on August 9, included shows in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Indianapolis.
Robbers & Cowards showcased the band’s inimitable blues-inspired indie rock sound to the world, producing fan favorite singles like “Hang Me Up to Dry,” “We Used to Vacation,” and “Hospital Beds.” It reached No.173 on the Billboard 200. It peaked at No.4 on Billboard’s US Heatseekers Albums chart, while “Hang Me Up to Dry” has been certified Gold.
"Aside from that, Cold War Kids are a strong answer to the questions of those looking for blues and soul mixed with a dash of indie flair. They blend these oldies in a new way and they've stripped their music down to its very core: raw emotion. This is definitely a band to watch and an album to buy, so that you can, in their words, "Join the kids on both coasts!" (Ryan M, scenepointblank.com, September 19, 2007)
Nathan Willett, lead vocals, piano, guitar

Cold War Kids
means International Blues. We began in August '04 with friends, jangly guitar, hand claps, and a Harmony amp in a storage room atop Mulberry Street restaurant in downtown Fullerton, CA. For the first practices, having instruments was secondary to
stomping and chanting; Clanging on heat pipes, thumping on plywood walls. Hollering into tape recorders. Slipping and swaying into alleyways and juke joints of yesteryear. Tapping in to the American dustbowl and British maritime. On the restaurants roof the sound and feeling was cultivated and burned, built and hallowed out, painted and stripped to the primer.
Almost three years have passed and we haven't let up since the starting gun fired. The album "Robbers & Cowards" was released in the US in October '06 on Downtown and the rest of the world in February '07 on V2. 'Why even have apartments?' We often ask ourselves as we have toured with the vim of a family reunion brawl across the US, UK, Europe, Australia and Japan.
Cold War Kids strive to make honest songs about human experience in orchards and hotel rooms, laundromats and churches, sea ports and school halls. We love the songs of Dylan, Nina Simone, and the Velvet Underground and make our own, which we like to think, are pretty original.
This album contains no booklet.
