Info for Schubert: Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 114, D. 667 "Trout" & Other Works

This album contains works by Franz Schubert: The famous ´Trout Quintet´ for piano and strings in A major, which the composer wrote for a group of friends coming together to play his works.

It is performed by the soloists of the Cologne New Philharmonic and Italian pianist Filippo Faes.

The String Quintet In C major op.posth. for 2 Violins, Viola and 2 Cellos is generally regarded as Schubert's finest chamber work as well as one of the greatest compositions in all chamber music.

The famous Adagio is here presented in an arrangement for String Orchestra with double bass replacing the 2nd Cello and was recorded in the great acoustics of Vezelay Abbey in France.

The charming ‚Hungarian Melody‘ for piano presents in miniature Schubert’s extraordinary genius: The spacious calmness of his forms, the subtle touches in the piano scoring, and the pure beauty of his melodic and harmonic brilliance.
