Info for Modest Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition
Modest Mussrogsky hat seinen Klavierzyklus „Bilder einer Ausstellung“ – Erinnerungen an Viktor Hartmann 1874 veröffentlicht. Die einzelnen Sätze beschreiben Gemälde und Zeichnungen seines im Jahr zuvor gestorbenen Freundes Viktor Hartmann, die Mussorgski auf einer Gedächtnisausstellung gesehen hatte. Das Werk entstand auf Anregung eines gemeinsamen Freundes, des Kunstkritikers Wladimir Stassow. Er war auch an der Namensgebung der Stücke beteiligt und ihm wurde der Zyklus gewidmet.
Das dritte Stück Il vecchio Castello – „Das alte Schloss“ wurde von Stassow mit dem Zusatz versehen: „… vor dem ein singender Troubadour steht“. Es handelt sich um eine ruhige Romanze von wehmütigem Charakter (Andantino molto cantabile e con dolore). Die Begleitung sowie das Vorspiel und die Zwischenspiele zwischen den Strophen erinnern an das Spiel einer mittelalterlichen Drehleier.
Der russische Pianist Kirill Rosenblad gilt als ein Spezialist für die große russische, von der Romantik inspirierte Klavierschule. Seine Interpretationen der Werke Sergei Rachmaninows werden weit über die Grenzen Russlands hinaus geschätzt. Doch Rosenblad ist gleichfalls in der deutschen Romantik (Brahms) zuhause und pflegt eine innige Beziehung zur französischen Klaviermusik. Eine derartige stilistische Vielfalt ist außergewöhnlich und “zeichnet den wahrhaft großen Künstler aus” (Frantisek Steinweg).
