Camerata de Lausanne
Founded by Pierre Amoyal, solo violin, the Camerata de Lausanne is a string ensemble that varies its size and formation depending on the repertoire being performed. Coming from all over the world, the talented young musicians that make up the ensemble represent a homogeneous and dynamic group from the same instrumental tradition.

Since 2002, the Camerata de Lausanne has performed in prestigious concert halls in Paris (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Palais des Invalides), Milan (Sala Verdi), Moscow (Tchaikovsky Hall and International House of Music), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw). The orchestra also played in Damas, Beirut, Catania, Pointe à Pitre, Fort de France, Singapore, Macau, Bangkok, Shanghai and went on tour in Russia, Japan, Korea, Italy and France.

The Camerata de Lausanne took part in many projects with the Opera de Lausanne: the ensemble played in “Le petit Ramoneur” by Britten, “Le Directeur de Théâtre” by Mozart, “La Canterina” by Haydn and “Le Chat Botté” by Montsalvage, under the baton of Pierre Amoyal.

La Camerata de Lausanne has recorded three CDs, the last one (available soon), featuring Tchaikovsky’s “String Serenade” and “Souvenir de Florence”.

Open-minded, stimulated by new projects, the Camerata de Lausanne augments its repertoire and its professional activities with each new encounter. As such, it is always ready to embark on collaborations with other ensembles, to accompany dancers, to perform for young audiences or indeed to give concerts abroad. Whatever the place or the context, the main priority for the Camerata de Lausanne is to place its technical and musical expertise at the service of evocative music, nuanced and shared with audiences from all backgrounds and all cultures.

Pierre Amoyal
is one of the most brilliant violinists of his generation. He began his music studies very early and was awarded a Premier Prix from the CNSM de Paris at the age of 12. Five years later he departed for Los Angeles to study with Jascha Heifetz. He enjoyed there the privilege of performing chamber music in concert as well as recording with Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky.

Since then Pierre Amoyal has been invited to play with the most eminent orchestras and has performed throughout the world. He regularly works with the most important conductors of our time: P. Boulez, S. Ozawa, C. Dutoit, E. Inbal, S. Skrowaczewski, G. Herbig, G. Prêtre, G. Roshdestvensky, K. Sanderling, S. Rattle, R. Fruhbeck de Burgos, M. Whun Chung.

His numerous recordings for Decca include works by Fauré, Chausson, Franck, as well as concertos by Dutilleux, Saint-Saëns and Respighi. His most recent recordings for Harmonia Mundi include Grieg’s three sonatas and Brahms’ violin sonatas, all with Frederic Chiu, and René Koering’s Violin Concerto with Friedemann Layer.

Pierre Amoyal is also a passionate teacher. He was appointed a professor at the CNSM de Paris at a very young age and now teaches at the Lausanne Conservatory – High School for Music. He is the artistic director of the Lausanne Summer Music Academy, devoted exclusively to the violin and piano sonatas repertoire, which he founded with Alexis Weissenberg and now co-directs with Bruno Canino.

In 1985 Pierre Amoyal was named a Chevalier of Arts and Lettres and in 1995 was raised to the rank of Chevalier de l’Ordre National de Mérite. In 2002 he received the Prix du Rayonnement de la Fondation Vaudoise pour la création artistique.

Pierre Amoyal plays one of the world’s most celebrated violins, the Kochansky Stradivarius from 1717 which was miraculously recovered in Italy in 1991 after its theft in 1987. Pierre Amoyal is a very engaging virtuoso whose exceptional talents never impeded his love of hard work or the development of the most essential human qualities.
