Info for Tchaikovsky: Piano Trio Op. 50
This trio by Tchaikovsky originates in the unusual story of one man. Its lyrical, intense quality evokes the dramatic world of the great Russian authors. With their remarkable understanding of balance, the Trio Karénine has chosen to combine it with two slow movements, tempering as well as contributing to the energy of the programme. An intimate journey, in good company, between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The life and character of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) could have emerged from the pen of Pushkin, Dostoevsky or Tolstoy, so closely do they mirror the romantic Russian world and its tormented heroic characters. This cult of great men, of a sanguine nature, like characters from the Brothers Karamazov, or Boris Godunov, capable of violence towards other people, and towards the world, is paired with a personal struggle, in which the individual confronts their inner self. Tchaikovsky conducted an abundant correspondence with his friend and patron Nadezhda von Meck, who had made him promise never to try to meet her in person. These letters, of literary value, bear witness to his existential struggles, as well as to his relationship problems, and also reveal the daily life of a musician prey to aesthetic soul-searching. ...
