Peter Frampton – All Blues

Review Peter Frampton – All Blues

Peter Frampton, the 69-year-old rock guitarist, is currently on tour with his band in the USA. More precisely: on his farewell tour. After that there should be an end to public appearances, because the guitarist, who suffers from a rare degenerative muscle disease, fears that he will not be at the height of his art next year due to illness. For his probably last album All Blues, Peter Frampton closes the circle of his artistic activity, as the blues was in the early seventies, at the beginning of his career, but later less popular. Original tone Frampton: “I have always loved to play the blues,” Frampton said in a statement. “When we formed Humble Pie, the first material we played together was just that. For the last two summers I had been playing a handful of blues numbers every night on stage with Steve Miller Band. I enjoyed this immensely and it gave me the idea of doing an ‘All Blues’ album live in the studio with my band. We started the resulting sessions nine days after coming off the road last year. Over a two- week period, we recorded 23 tracks, all live in the studio. The energy of these tracks is completely different from building a track one instrument at a time. With this recording, we pay tribute to all the original artists who invented this incredible music. I hope you can hear and feel our enjoyment. I’m not sure if you can say we had fun playing the blues. But we definitely did.”

Part of the reinterpretations of Blues classics are the band members Adam Lester (guitar/vocals), Rob Arthur (keyboards/guitar/vocals) and Dan Wojciechowski (drums), and as guests Kim Wilson Larry Carlton, Sonny Landreth and Steve Morse, as well as the "regular" band members are all experts in their field. All Blues was recorded in Peter Frampton's "Studio Phenix" in Nashville. All Blues communicates the mood of a live event in a deceptively real way, which suggests that the musicians were in the best mood during the recording sessions and had a lot of fun together. And Peter Frampton actually confirms this impression: “We started the resulting sessions nine days after coming off the road last year. Over a two-week period, we recorded 23 tracks, all live in the studio. The energy of these tracks is completely different from building a track one instrument at a time. I’m not sure if you can say we had fun playing the blues. But we definitely did”.

There can be no question of a swan song in the form of this album, as Peter Frampton and his band are as full in the juice as usual and deliver a blues that only die-hard rock musicians can deliver. May this stay as long as possible.
