Stéphane Bernard
hails from the south of France. He started out as a classical musician (piano and liturgical organ), but soon turned his attention to improvisation. Fascinated by black American music, he started out in the Var jazz scene while studying at university, taking part in a number of projects and frequenting festivals.

He finally decided to devote himself to music and took a very active part in the "Workshop Experience" collective (La Seyne/Fort Napoléon). There he met the singer Virginie Teychené, for whom he became a privileged accompanist, both on her recordings and on numerous jazz stages in France and Europe (Juan les Pins, Marciac, Montpellier, Geneva, Lugano, Pescara...).

"He struck us with the conciseness and efficiency of his accompaniment, the dynamics of his nuances and the firmness of his attack [...] He explores the depths of his Steinway, which he probes with a delicate touch" Franck Bergerot (Trianon concert review).

He is currently devoting himself to his own repertoire, while continuing to play as a sideman in numerous projects to which he lends his playing and his ideas as an arranger.
