Peter Holtslag
wurde 1957 in Amsterdam geboren und studierte an der Musikhochschule (damals Sweelinck Conservatorium) seiner Heimatstadt (wobei Frans Brüggen seine große Inspiration war). 1980 schloß er sein Studium 'cum laude' ab.
Er konzertiert auf der ganzen Welt mit der Block- und der Traversflöte. Als angesehener Solist und Kammermusiker stand er auf der Bühne und unternahm Konzertreisen mit Musikern und Ensembles wie Gustav Leonhardt, William Christie, Roy Goodman, The English Concert, The Orchestra of the 18th Century, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, La Fontegara Amsterdam, The Parley of Instruments, etc. Er hat weltweit für Rundfunk wie ABC Sydney, National Radio USA, WDR Köln, NOS Holland, New Zealand Radio, BBC London aufgenommen und spielte in führenden Festivals in, z.B., Utrecht, London, Lisbon, Paris, Berlin, Bilbao und Copenhagen.
Seine zahlreiche CD-Einspielungen bei renommierten Labels (DGG/Archiv, Hyperion, Chandos, Harmonia Mundi, Aeolus, CPO, etc.) fanden international Anerkennung. Von 1984–88 unterrichtete er an der Guildhall School of Music in London, und 1988 wurde er als Professor sowohl an der Royal Academy of Music, London als auch an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg berufen. 2013 beendete er seine regelmäßige Tätigkeit an der Royal Academy und besucht dieses renommiertes Institut seitdem als Visiting Professor. Ihm wurde 2013 eine Ehrenmitgliedschaft der Royal Academy verliehen. Außerdem unterrichtet er bei internationalen Meisterkursen und Sommerakademien.
Über alles liebt er seine Frau und seine Tochter; er liebt es aber auch, zu kochen und in seiner umfangreichen Bibliothek zu studieren (allerdings nicht gleichzeitig...).
Das Ruysdael Quartett
gehört seit über 25 Jahren zu den führenden niederländischen Streichquartetten. In den Anfangsjahren gewann es mehrere Preise, darunter den Charles-Hennen-Wettbewerb, den Concours Quatuors in Bordeaux und den renommierten Kersjes-Preis. Das Quartett ist regelmäßig im Radio und auf allen niederländischen Bühnen zu hören. Auch im Ausland tritt das Quartett häufig auf, unter anderem auf mehreren Tourneen in Japan, zuletzt aber auch beim Brighton Festival in Großbritannien und den Zunfkonzerten in Zürich.
Peter Holtslag
Born in Amsterdam in 1957, Peter Holtslag studied recorder at the Sweelinck Conservatorium of his native town, graduating ‘cum laude’ in 1980, his leading source of inspiration being Frans Brüggen. From then onwards he has toured worldwide as a recorder and transverse flute player.
A distinguished soloist and chamber musician, playing both "early" and contemporary music, he shared the concert platform with musicians such as Gustav Leonhardt, William Christie, Roy Goodman and ensembles such as The English Concert, The Orchestra of the 18th Century, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, La Fontegara Amsterdam and Trio Noname. He has also recorded for radio stations all over the globe ( ABC Sydney, National Radio USA, WDR Köln, NOS Holland, New Zealand Radio, BBC London etc ). He appeared at major festivals in many of the European cultural capitals including Utrecht, London, Lisbon, Paris, Berlin, Bilbao and Copenhagen.
His numerous CD-recordings on most major labels (such as Hyperion, DGG/Archiv, Harmonia Mundi, Chandos, Aeolus, CPO) have won international acclaim. From 1984 to 1988 Peter taught at the Guildhall School of Music in London and in 1988 he was appointed as professor to both the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. He was a guest lecturer at the City University London; a guest professor at Academies in Amsterdam, Prague, St.Petersburg, Helsinki, Berlin, Budapest,and Kraków, and held numerous international master classes all over the globe (Hong Kong, Lisbon, Wellington etc.). He teaches at international early music summer courses and is one of the founding members of the Academia de Musica Antiga de Lisboa - an institution holding international early music courses in Portugal. After 25 years of teaching at the Academy in London, he resigned there in 2013, to return regularly as a visiting professor. For his services to music he was appointed an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy in the same year.
Meanwhile, he continues his teaching activities as a professor in Hamburg. He adores his wife and daughter, and loves to cook and to study in his extensive library (though not simultaneously...).
The Ruysdael Quartet
has been one of the top Dutch string quartets for over 25 years. In the early years, it won several prizes, including the Charles Hennen Competition, the Concours Quatuors in Bordeaux and the prestigious Kersjes Prize. The quartet can be heard regularly on the radio and on all Dutch stages. The quartet also plays abroad frequently, with a number of tours in Japan, but also recently at the Brighton Festival in the United Kingdom and the Zunfkonzerte in Zurich.
