Biography Eternum Quartett

Eternum Quartett

The Eternum Quartet
is one of Germany’s most sought-after saxophone quartets. A warm and colorful sound, a perfect fusion of the four instruments, and unique interpretations characterize the quartet’s performances. The four musicians have been playing together since 2017.

The members all studied at the Cologne University of Music in the class of Daniel Gauthier, where they discovered and perfected their passion for quartet-playing together. In 2022 they completed their chamber music studies with Han-An Liu and Georg Klütsch, also in Cologne. In addition to their studies, they received further musical inspiration from Friedemann Berger, Koryun Asatryan, Christian Wetzel, and Barnabás Kelemen, among others.

The Eternum Quartet also performs throughout Germany in important cultural venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Allerheiligen Hofkirche Munich, and the Beethovenhaus Bonn as well as in other European countries. The ensemble was selected by the Deutsche Orchester-Stiftung in 2022 to take part in its project “With Words and Sound.”

In 2021, the Eternum Quartet won a Second Prize at the August Everding Competition for Saxophone Quartets in Munich. In 2020, the Quartet performed in the chamber music series Best of NRW. The same year the musicians were selected to represent their university at the WDR 3 Campus Concert. Since 2019, the Eternum Quartet has been supported by Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Köln e.V., and participated in 2018 in the scholarship program of the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation.

Out of the desire to expand the quartet repertoire, to present new sounds, and to be as close as possible to the artistic process, the ensemble has given composition commissions to Konstantia Gourzi and Helena Cánovas i Parés, among other composers.
