Jimi Tenor & Kalle Kalima

Jimi Tenor & Kalle Kalima (Tenors of Kalma)
is a Finnish group that combines jazz with electronic pop music. Jimi Tenor and Kalle Kalima have been making music together for over 18 years and now they break into a trio format with Joonas Riippa on drums. The music is dark and jazzy, but danceable and suddenly you hear a chasing ballad. Moments later it could be inspired by Sun Ra and Kraftwerk.

Jimi Tenor has never been satisfied with the traditional role of a pop artist. He is known as a musician whose work is beyond current trends, even though he has written big hits like "Take me Baby". He stands at home in front of the boisterous crowd, wearing a glittery costume of his own design and a flowing cape, holding a noise maker whose main components are a Hong Kong-made Walkman and an East German bicycle dynamo.

Kalle Kalima is an ambassador of Finnish jazz and avant-garde music in Berlin. He mixes elements of jazz and rock in a unique way. He has played with Jazzanova, Jason Moran, Jim Black, Greg Cohen, Anthony Braxton, Tony Allen, Leo Wadada Smith, Greg Cohen and Marc Ducret, among others. Kalima is also known as the leader of his own highly acclaimed ensembles: Klima Kalima (The winner of the New German Jazz Award 2008) and his solo performance Pentasonic. With the group "K-18" he won the Finnish "Grammy" for the best jazz album in 2012. His new album "High Noon" was released in January 2016 by ACT Music. He is nominated for the Echo Jazz Prize in Germany 2016 the category "Guitar National" for his work on "Electric Willow".

Joonas Riippa is one of Finland's most important drummers today and works with many renowned musicians such as Mikko Innanen, Verneri Pohjola, Teemu Viinikainen, Seppo Kantonen and Joonatan Rautio.
