Info for Promises

With Promises, her third album, the Franco-Taiwanese singer delivers her truth. After Lots of Love (2020), rooted in standards, and Dare That Dream (2021), which was her first experience of writing vocal jazz, Estelle's new album Promises is a blend of soul, R'n'B and jazz. A more intimate, personal approach, a universe in which her voice asserts itself, gaining in freedom, space and breath.

While Promises allows us to rediscover Estelle's voice and her mezzo timbre, the album also highlights her work as a composer, as she writes both lyrics and music: each track reflects a part of her story, her identity and her dual Franco-Taiwanese culture. Chicago-born pianist Rob Clearfield plays an essential role on this album, as arranger and co-composer on several tracks.

For Estelle, music represents a truly salutary experience. Not only because it has enabled her to go and play in Taiwan over the last few years, and thus see her family again, but also because she is totally committed to it, learning to free her voice.

A voice in full bloom, a musical universe somewhere between soul and jazz, a team of musicians in osmosis, sincere and personal lyrics: so much promise ... of success.

Estelle Perrault
a musician of French-Taiwanese descent, skillfully interweaves the essence of her heritage into every melody she performs. Raised at the cultural crossroads of Taiwan and Paris, Estelle's music echoes a soul searching for balance between two worlds, finding in jazz both a refuge and a powerful means of expression. Faced with the reality of a life torn between two diametrically opposed cultures, jazz offered her a sanctuary, a freedom to explore her own identity and articulate her experiences without hindrance. Her work, a seductive fusion of traditional jazz and contemporary accents, is the mirror of this intercultural journey, a promise of comfort and adventure.

Through her albums, "Lots of Love" and its follow-up, "Dare That Dream," Estelle unveils a musical alchemy, blending classic jazz with modern innovations while sensitively addressing themes such as nostalgia, psychological well-being, and personal growth.

Estelle's voice, imbued with a richness acquired through her transitions between two worlds, invites the listener into a sphere where music is a bridge between cultures, encouraging the formation of a supportive community.

Residing in Paris, Estelle continues to evolve and refine her sonic universe. Her music, a reflection of introspection on her balance and identity, touches on nostalgia in its roots—"nóstos" (return) and "álgos" (pain)—exploring the desire for an unrealizable return. This quest for emotional reconnection aims for healing and balance, offering a new perspective on the search for belonging. It encourages us to see nostalgia as a vehicle for resilience and deep self-understanding. For Estelle, jazz is more than a genre: it is a language of the soul, unifying cultures and guiding us through the complexity of today's world.
