Info for Time Again

Koppel & Son is the name of the close musical collaboration between father and son, Anders Koppel and Benjamin Koppel.

Koppel & Son performs regularly as a duo, but time and again act as a foundation for different solo-artists. The solo-artists range from rappers to singers and instrumentalists rooted in both classical, world- and rock music.

At the age of 3 Benjamin Koppel was on stage when his father Anders Koppel toured with the legendary improvisational orchestra Bazaar (1996-2013). Anders liked to make a bed on stage out of the blankets that his Hammond organ was wrapped in during transport. Today, they perform together on stage and intend to break down boundaries between rhythmic and classical music, and between different genres such as jazz, world and rock.

Koppel & Søn is the name of a lifelong musical community with roots in an artistic dynasty of musical Koppels. Together with percussionist Jacob Andersen, they published Kakophonia (1999) and Katalogue (2002). The family interaction can also be heard on Anders Koppel’s album releases Works for Saxophone and Orchestra, on String Quartets, Mezzo Saxophone Quintet – concerto for mezzo sax, harp, cello and orchestra and his album Double Triple Koppel with concerto for recorder, saxophone and orchestra. Anders Koppel has written Mulberry Street Symphony for orchestra and jazz trio to Benjamin Koppel’s world known jazz trio KCB. Benjamin Koppel also composed and produced all the music for Anders’ 50th anniversary CD release Everything Can Change.

Anders Koppel (born 1947) is known for the iconic organ sound in Savage Rose, which was Denmark’s first major international rock band, which played, among other things, at the Newport Jazz Festival in the early 1970s. He has written music for more than 200 films, 20 ballets, 40 concerts for soloist and symphony orchestra as well as a large number of chamber music works.

Benjamin Koppel (born 1976) is known for his collaboration with many great jazz names such as Phil Woods, Kenny Werner and Brian Blade. He has released 50 albums as a soloist, has participated in more than 100 others and is an author of the Novel Annas Sang. He has played with Paul Bley, Charlie Mariano, Bobby Watson, Larry Goldings, Jack DeJohnette, etc. In 2011 he received the French knighthood L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his efforts for the development of French and international culture.

Benjamin Koppel, saxophone
Scott Colley, double bass
Brian Blade, drums

Benjamin Koppel, Scott Colley, Brian Blade
met in Copenhagen in 2012 when they played two sold-out concerts together during Koppel’s Summer Jazz festival. Koppel and Colley had played together before, and when Blade joined the two, magic happened.

The three virtuosos formed the trio Koppel – Colley – Blade Collective, which released its first album in 2015.

In Koppel / Colley / Blade Collective, Blade’s creativity on the drums perfectly matches Colley’s strong improvisational skills on the bass – and interacting with Koppel’s lyrical saxophone playing, the trio draws a strong melodic soundscape. The music ranges from quiet, ballad-oriented jazz to more powerful, energetic, rocking subgenres.
