Info for Johann Strauss

In the spirit of Johann Strauss II, his brothers and the truly Viennese musictradition we present our new CD „Johann Strauss“, released on 23 June by the own lable „Wiener Symphoniker“, under the baton of Manfred Honeck. Almost all pieces Manfred Honeck has chosen for this recording have to do with nature in some way or other: „I am fascinated by the sensitivity and skill the „Strausses“ displayed at transferring nature into music with instrumental effects.“

This CD focuses on Johann Strauss II but also unites compositions of all three sons of the Strauss dynasty’s founder. Recording the music of the Strauss brothers together with the Vienna Symphony has been a particular joy and honour for me. Not only are the musicians of this orchestra deeply familiar with the traditions of rubato playing and the typical waltz accompaniment, they also have the distinct empathy which is so essential in bringing out the unique character of each single one of the Strauss’s works, Manfred Honeck concluded.

„Less than sixty minutes playing time is ungenerous but you may overlook this as the quality of the playing is gratifyingly high. I don’t usually comment on booklet essays but this one written by Josef Tichý in an English translation is first class and there are a number of fascinating photos included too. Recorded earlier this year the sound engineers are to be congratulated for providing clear, well balanced sonics. This is a captivating release, highly desirable for lovers of music from the Strauss family.“ (Michael Cookson, MusicWeb International)
