Info for A brief nostalgia

The Dutch modern-classical composer/pianist is back with a new album of beautiful solo tracks for various keyboard instruments and synthesizers. 'A brief nostalgia' is another relaxing and exciting journey through Matteo Myderwyk's unique sound world. Matteo says:

"I’m delighted to introduce my third project to you. In a way it’s a follow-up to the first one – but while “Notes of Longing” still suggested a longing to the future, “A brief nostalgia” is composed mainly with a nostalgic look at the past. I hope my new album finds its place in people's homes for a brief moment of nostalgia, regardless of whether this consists of sadness, desire or bliss. For this album I used a wide arsenal of keyboard instruments: grand piano, upright piano, harmonium, organ, choir organ, various synthesizers and drum computers. I hope you’ll enjoy it!" (Matteo Myderwyk)

Music without prior arrangements: The years of training as a classical pianist at the conservatory taught Matteo Myderwyk mainly to leave behind music by his heroes Bach and Messiaen and to find his own musical language. First of all, he decided to throw off all the classical rules: this is how he ended up in the wonderful world of free jazz. Making music without prior agreements; to aim to make music in the moment. This was the most important lesson he learned in this experimental period; music is not on paper but is made in the moment.

In his own studio he recorded several albums with very limited equipment: often no more than a piano and a synthesizer. Last summer, Matteo exchanged the city for nature. He moved to the edge of the Veluwe, where he can walk right into the green. Shortly afterwards he made Veluwe Suite, eight dreamy songs, as a kind of intermezzo between desire (Notes of Longing) and nostalgia (A Brief Nostalgia).

His music is constantly evolving and his live shows are very varied. Often enough he breaks with the traditional laws by constantly improvising with choices of instruments and so he appears with an arsenal of synthesizers, beat machines and organs on just as many different stages. From a festival, to a club, a church or concert hall.

A Brief Nostalgia is the new album by Matteo Myderwyk released on the renowned Warner Classics, two years after the successful acclaimed Notes of Longing.

Matteo Myderwyk
As a classical pianist at the conservatory, Myderwyk abandoned the music of his heroes Bach, Liszt and Messiaen to develop his own musical vocabulary.

First of all, he decided to throw away the rulebook of classical music altogether, ending up enthralled in the wonderful world of free-jazz. Making music without plan or pre-written composition gave a new creative impulse that pushed the musician’s craft to exciting new directions.

Myderwyk learned his most important lesson in this experimental period; music isn't something written on paper, but materializes in the moment.

This album contains no booklet.
