Info for Almeida Prado: Works for Violin and Cello

José Antônio de Almeida Prado was one of the most prolific and creative Brazilian composers of the second half of the 20th century, drawing inspiration from birdsong and the forests of his homeland to the contemplation of the galaxies. The evocative Le Livre magique de Xangô is considered a fundamental work in Almeida Prado's last, eclectic postmodern phase, in which folk music also reappeared in works such as Das Cirandas. The lively Solo Violin Sonata and the lyrical Capriccio both explore the violin's full expressive potential, while The Four Seasons tests the skills of younger players.

Emmanuele Baldini, violin
Rafael Cesario, cello

Emmanuele Baldini
was born in Trieste, Italy, surrounded by music: his father, Lorenzo Baldini, is an important pianist and Italian pedagogue. His mother, Eletta Baldini, is professor of music theory and solfège at the local conservatory, in addition to being a fine pianist herself.

After studies in his hometown with Bruno Polli, Baldini furthered his violin training in Geneva with Corrado Romano, in Salzburg and Berlin with Ruggiero Ricci, and recently studied conducting with Isaac Karabtchevsky and Frank Shipway.

From an early age, Baldini garnered prizes from countless international competitions, including the “Premier Prix de Virtuosité avec distinction” in Geneva, the “Forum Junger Künstler” in Vienna, and a dozen other solo and chamber music competitions. Baldini has performed as soloist or recitalist across the globe, with five concert tours in Japan, two in the U.S., and one in Australia. He has performed in all the major European concert halls, in addition to those in Latin America and especially in Brazil, where he has made his home since 2005.

His inexhaustible curiosity and passion for music has broadened his horizons, and after a commendable career as violinist (with more than 15 recordings to his name, nearly 40 different violin concertos and all of the major violin sonatas in his repertoire), Baldini has embarked on new musical ventures as a conductor, he founded the OSESP Quartet (with section leaders of the orchestra of which he is concertmaster), he has intensified his teaching activities, and with the violin, has begun to explore the vast musical treasures of the Brazilian repertoire, much of which, unfortunately, remains unknown.

Baldini’s musical collaborations include countless internationally renowned artists, such as Maria-João Pires, Jean-Philippe Collard, Antonio Meneses, Fábio Zanon, Caio Pagano, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Ricardo Castro, Nicholas Angelich, among others. The late Maestro Claudio Abbado wrote in a letter to London’s “Harold Holt,” of Baldini: “I am impressed by both his deep musicality and technical level.” He has been concertmaster of the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Orchestra del Teatro “Guiseppe Verdi” di Trieste, and since 2005 has been concertmaster of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP), Brazil. He has also acted as guest concertmaster of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galícia, in Spain.

Baldini´s conducting highlights include concerts at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Teatro del Sodre in Montevideo, and appearances with the principal orchestras of Latin America. As of 2017, he is the musical director of the Orquesta de Cámara de Valdivia, in Chile, which begins a new chapter in his multifaceted career.

Rafael Cesario
He holds a Master's degree from the University of São Paulo and obtained a Perfectionnement diploma from the Conservatoire Départemental du Val de Biévre (France), in the class of Romain Garioud.

He took lessons with Eduardo Bello, Antonio Meneses, Alisa Weilerstein, Peter Szabo, Dennis Parker, Pieter Wispelwey and Sol Gabetta, among others. As a soloist, he has played with the Orquestra do Theatro São Pedro, Orquestra Sinfônica de São José dos Campos and Camareta Fukuda. As a chamber musician, he has performed alongside musicians such as Lorenz Nasturica, Mathieu Dufour and Andreas Wittmann of the Berlin Philharmonic.

He was a teacher at the International Violin Festival Festspiele Brazil, where he soloed with the Paraná Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Henrik Schaefer.

He teaches at the Baccarelli Institute and performs regularly with Cristian Budu, Yuri Pingo, Sonia Rubinsky, Leandro Roverso and Marcos Aragone.
