Info for Chopin, Mendelssohn & R. Schumann: Piano Fantasies

The history of fantasy stretches back over centuries and dates back to the Renaissance. Almost all great composers tried their hand at this genre, each giving it a personal touch. With fantasies by Frédéric Chopin, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and Robert Schumann, Amit Yahav presents several highlights of this musical form on his new CD. The Israeli pianist completed his doctorate in London on the subject of Chopin and chose for his CD recording, among others, the composer's posthumously published Fantaisie Impromptu Op. 66 from a manuscript with Chopin's handwriting—a worthwhile discovery!

Amit Yahav, piano

Amit Yahav
The multi-award-winning pianist Amit Yahav is in great demand as a recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist, having earned his reputation for interpretations that grab and move audiences with passion and intellectual insight. Having received high praise for his interpretations of the music of Chopin and Schumann in particular, his concert career has taken him to more than a dozen countries.

Keen to program well-known and loved repertoire alongside lesser-known works, his repertoire stretches from the early Baroque to contemporary music. Alongside his performing career, Amit Yahav was invited to research Chopin with the generous support of the Royal College of Music’s Polonsky Award. In 2018, he earned a Doctor of Music degree for his thesis investigating interpretation in the music of Chopin.

In 2014, Amit Yahav was invited to present a lecture-recital on Chopin’s four Ballades as part of the Royal College of Music’s “Insight” series. Following this, he released his first CD, Amit Yahav plays Chopin. His playing on that disc has been acclaimed as “noble, sensitive, and full of good taste” (Arie Vardi).

Amongst Amit Yahav’s success include the György Solti Award for Professional Development and the 1st International Israeli Music Competition in London. Having won the latter, he was selected to perform works by Tzvi Avni in London’s Southbank Center in the presence of the composer.

Amit Yahav was born in Israel in 1987 and spent his formative years in Amsterdam. In 2005 he moved to study in London, where he currently resides.
