Masako Ohta chooses a haiku by Matsuo Basho as the motto for her musical garden: For a while moonlit night over flowers. Ohta opens with "In a landscape" by John Cage and leads over to "Clair de lune" by Claude Debussy with the Intermezzo, N" 2, A major by Johannes Brahms. Pattern B "Yabe" from Patterns of Plants by Japanese composer Mamoru Fujieda is just as much a part of her journey into the infinite nature of sounds as Fumio Yasuda's "Rain Forrest" and "Souvenir from Japan, Sakura for Piano" by Toshio Hosokawa. Masako Ohta combines classical music from Schubert, Mozart, Chopin and Zimmermann with contemporary Japanese sounds to create a poetic work of fine and sensitive timbres. With "My Music Garten", Masako Ohta releases her third piano solo album on Winter & Winter. For the recordings, Ohta retreated to a solitary forest house in the Bavarian Forest, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to be inspired by silence and nature. This album is the result of her intensive study of poetry, sound and music from her native Japan and her adopted home in the West. Masako Ohta lives in Munich and performs all over the world, often in collaboration with actors, dancers, poets and visual artists.

Masako Ohta
ist in Tokyo (Japan) geboren und aufgewachsen. Sie lebt und arbeitet seit 1985 in Deutschland, zuerst in Berlin und seit 1988 in München.

Ihre solistische und kammermusikalische Konzerttätigkeit liegt im Bereich der Klassischen als auch der Neuen Musik, sowie der Improvisation. Sie wirkte u. a. bei Festspiel plus der Bayerischen Staatsoper, International Art Festival in Mexiko, dem Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau und Berlin sowie dem John Cage Festival in Ravensburg 2012 mit.

Ihre intensive Beschäftigung mit Poesie, Klang und Musik aus Japan, Europa und anderen Kulturkreisen führt zu reger Zusammenarbeit mit Schauspielern, Tänzern, Dichtern, Bildenden Künstlern und Weltmusikern/innen. Sie kreiert und wirkt mit bei Tanz- und Theateraufführungen, bei interkulturellen und interdisziplinären Projekten. Sie kreiert ihre eigene Konzertserien, die Klaviersoloprogramme „Phantasiestücke“, „Kammermusik-GEN“ und „Wurzeln & Flügel“.

Masako Ohta bekam den ersten Preis bei dem Giesinger Kulturpreis 2016 mit Kammersänger Christopher Robson und Schauspieler Olaf Becker.

Die Arbeit von Masako Ohta ist in zahlreichen Rundfunkproduktionen u. a. beim Bayerischen Rundfunk, Hessischen Rundfunk, Südwestfunk und RIAS Berlin mit Werken von W. A. Mozart, C. Debussy, D. M. Johansen, B. Maderna, K. Bohrmann u.a. dokumentiert, sowie auf der CD „OHENROSAN“, einer Improvisations-Liveaufnahme mit Udo Schindler (Klarinette) in der Pilgrims of Sound-Serie „Realtime“ und „Botenstoffe“ vom Britischen Label „Confront Recordings“. Am 2.2.2018 erscheint ihre Solo CD „Poetry Album“ bei dem Label „Winter&Winter“.

Ihr Klavierstudium absolvierte sie an der Toho Gakuen School of Music, Tokyo und an der Hochschule (Universität) der Künste Berlin bei Erich Andreas und György Sebök. Zudem besuchte sie Meisterkurse bei András Schiff und György Kurtag.

Als Diplom-Klavierpädagogin unterrichtet sie und gibt Meisterkurse für Klavier und Kammermusik. Mit dem Motto „ganzheitliches Klavierspiel“ verbindet sie Ihre Klavierlehre mit japanischer Kalligraphie.
