Info for 30 Traps

Colorful, captivating and bold: The trio of Marie Krüttli synthesizes with singularity the forces of Swiss jazz. This pianist is a UFO in the world of jazz. At 26, she imposed an original voice and a way for her to make the piano-double bass-drums trio ring.

Sharp rhythmic and harmonic language, bewitching virtuosity, powerful ideas, mature sound and unambiguous aesthetics. Interpreted with “groove” and lightness, this music speaks to the body and heart.`

"But what truly distinguishes her from many of her peers is her confident and straightforward delivery of a vast array of original musical ideas. Deeply indebted to composers such as Stravinsky, Debussy and Ravel (both her parents are classical musicians), she is at home in a wide range of dazzling melodic patterns, effortlessly mastering the most sophisticated chord changes."

"Jazz needs Trios like this" (Bruce Lindsay, All About Jazz)

Marie Kruttli, piano
Lukas Traxel, double bass
Ludwig Wandinger, drums

After spending years playing classical music, she discovered jazz as a genre that resonated more with her body and soul. She then completed her master’s studying with Hans Feigenwinter in Lucerne.

Since 2010 Marie composes a lot. Her trio released its debut album Kartapousse in 2015. During the same year Marie spent 3 months in New York City, where she was immersed in the local jazz scene. She recorded an album What Do I Miss with notable New York musicians which was released in October 2016. She won scholarships from the Friedlwald Foundation and from the Langnau Jazz Night piano competition. Marie and her trio also won the ZKB Jazz Preis 2016. The same year the trio released another album called Running After The Sun. They are currently preparing for the release of their brand new album The Kind Of Happy One which will be out early 2020.
