With their new album DEPART the Matthias Siegrist Logbook goes on a musical expedition: The band is the crew, the stage is the survey vessel and the pulse is the wind in the sails. It is their mission to pass through stormy seas, to sail around hazardous capes and to defy iciness. Just to follow the craving of the voyager to discover unique moments and to rest there for a while. Lose yourself without getting lost with Not Lost. Drift away with Let it Go or simply Depart on the way to new shores of sound. Each song describes another journey, each solo tells an individual experience. On their second album DEPART Matthias Siegrist and his quartet again hearably improved their play. The members now form an even tighter unit that perfectly matches. They inspire their audience with their mere and unlimited joy in playing together.

Matthias Siegrist’s talent has been discovered by his former teacher Wolfgang Muthspiel very early – the harmonic richness as well as his outstanding feeling for timing and phrasing. He outlines the individual and very poetic character of Siegrist’s compositions.

Matthias Siegrist
erhielt im Alter von zehn Jahren seinen ersten Gitarrenunterricht. Schon bald entstanden erste eigene Stücke und noch während seiner Schulzeit spielte er ein erstes abendfüllendes Konzert mit vorwiegend deutschen Liedern. Zunehmend begann sich Siegrist für instrumentale und improvisierte Musik zu interessieren und kam auf diese Weise mit Jazz in Berührung. Dieses Interesse führte ihn schliesslich an die Musikhochschule Basel, wo er Jazzgitarre studierte. Nach dem Studium machte Siegrist zunächst vor allem als Jazzgitarrist von sich hören. Mit seinem Jazzquartett veröffentlichte er zwischen 2007 und 2009 zwei CDs und eine EP, war auf Tourneen im In- und Ausland und wurde ausserdem für den ZKB Jazzpreis nominiert.

In den vergangenen Jahren ist der Jazz etwas in den Hintergrund gerückt, Siegrist hat sich dafür umso intensiver dem Schreiben von Songs gewidmet. Nach zwei weiteren Alben mit englischen Stücken und zahlreichen Konzerten, die ihn von der Schweiz über Deutschland bis nach Russland, China und in die Mongolei führten, schreibt Matthias Siegrist nun ausschliesslich Lieder in Deutscher Sprache. Eine erste EP nahmens “Unterschlupf“ wird 2013 erscheinen.

Neben seinem eigenen Projekt engagiert sich Siegrist in verschiedenen weiteren Bands (Sting Operation, Inez, Chansonnerie, Simone Guggisberg Trio).
