Info for LEGEND

John Legend, EGOT-winning singer/songwriter, releases his eighth album, "Legend". The album consists of two albums, including 24-track, featuring guest appearances from Amber Mark, Free Nationals, Jada Kingdom, Jazmine Sullivan, Jhené Aiko, JID, Ledisi, Muni Long, Rapsody, Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign and Saweetie.

“I'm so thrilled to be releasing new music,” says John Legend. “The past year or so has been so exciting for me creatively. I have been writing and collaborating with some of the most talented people in music, and we have some great new material to share with the world. (John Legend)

In a press release, Legend details the album as “an unapologetic spirit of sensuality and joy, informed by the full vulnerability of pain, praise, and healing.” He goes on to say “Until this point, I’ve never used an aspect of my name as the title of an album,” Legend said in a statement about embracing his iconic name for the first time in an album title. “I had to earn that, to live up to it by delivering in the performance and the music. And this is me saying I’m proud of who I am, I’m confident in the work I’ve done, and I’m just going to declare it.”

Executive produced by Legend and Ryan Tedder, this vibrant project is suffused with an unapologetic spirit of sensuality and joy, informed by the vulnerability of pain, praise and healing.

“I'm so thrilled to be releasing new music,” says Legend. “The past year or so has been so exciting for me creatively. I have been writing and collaborating with some of the most talented people in music, and we have some great new material to share with the world. ‘Dope’ is one of my favorites. I love the energy of the song. I loved collaborating with my gifted co-writers and producers, and J.I.D is one of my favorite emerging artists in hip-hop. I hope the song can be a part of people's soundtrack for this summer.”

Legend has garnered twelve Grammys, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Tony, and an Emmy, making him the first African-American man to earn an EGOT. Legend has released seven celebrated albums over the course of his career and recently launched his critically-acclaimed Las Vegas Residency Love In Las Vegas, which began in April 2022 at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. In 2018, Legend starred in NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert, winning an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special and nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor (Limited Series). He joined the Emmy-nominated show The Voice for Season 16 and most recently wrapped Season 21 as coach. John is also a partner in Get Lifted Film Co., serving as an Executive Producer for Giving Voice, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, Atlanta’s Missing And Murdered: The Lost Children, and more.

As a philanthropist, Legend initiated the #FREEAMERICA campaign in 2015 and most recently, founded the initiative, HUMANLEVEL, which is igniting systematic change and building racial equity across American cities and communities.

John Legend

John Legend
is a nine-time Grammy Award winning recording artist, critically-acclaimed concert performer, philanthropist/social activist, and was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. Legend’s debut album, Get Lifted (2004) sold more than three million copies worldwide and earned an astounding eight Grammy nominations with three wins for Best New Artist, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B album. Legend’s follow-up album, Once Again (2006) earned RIAA platinum certification and a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. High off the success of his third consecutive Top 10 album, Evolver (2008), Legend embarked on an extensive world tour with an 11 piece band - his largest traveling show to date. Inspired by the monumental 2008 Presidential election, Legend teamed up with The Roots to release the socially conscious album, Wake Up! (2010.) The album was nominated for five Grammy Awards and won Best R&B Album, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B song (for “Shine”- an original composition also featured in Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim’s documentary film Waiting for Superman) along with two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Album and Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration. In 2007, Legend launched the Show Me Campaign, a nonprofit organization fighting poverty around the world. John also sits on the Boards of The Education Equality Project, Teach for America, and the Harlem Village Academies. Legend has been honored several times for his activism, including the 2010 BET Humanitarian of the Year award, the 2009 CARE Humanitarian Award for Global Change, and the 2009 Africare’s Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award. In early 2012, Legend released one of the hottest songs of his career, the RIAA gold-certified hit “Tonight (Best You’ve Ever Had),” which sat atop the Urban AC radio chart for six consecutive weeks. Legend recently released his fifth studio album Love in the Future, with executive producers Kanye West and Dave Tozer, and will embark on a North American tour this autumn.
