Info for Autumn Variations

Ed Sheeran has released his new album "Autumn Variations". The album contains a total of 14 tracks, including "American Town", for which a new live performance video can be seen below. Ed also performed the song a few days ago in the kitchen of his good friend Courteney Cox, to whom he explained in advance that "American Town" was inspired by the series "Friends" (in which Cox once celebrated her breakthrough). The clip can also be seen below. Like the last album "-" (Subtract), "Autumn Variations" was produced by Aaron Dessner.

Announcing the album at the end of August, Ed Sheeran said of "Autumn Variations": "Last autumn I realised that my friends and I were going through different life changes. The heat of summer was followed by an autumn of upheaval - some things settled and consolidated, others came to a head or imploded.

When I was going through a difficult time myself early last year, writing songs helped me understand my feelings and process what was happening. So when I learned about my friends' different situations, I wrote songs again - some from their perspective, some from mine - to capture how they and I saw the world at that time. Highs like a new love or new friendships were part of it, but so were lows like heartbreak, depression, loneliness and lostness.

My father and brother told me about a composer called Elgar who composed the 'Enigma Variations', in which each of the 14 compositions was about a different person from his circle of friends. That inspired me to write this album. When I recorded 'Subtract' with Aaron Dessner, we had an instant connection. We were writing or recording practically non-stop, and the album came out of that partnership. I think that's where he

„Last autumn, I found that my friends and I were going through so many life changes. After the heat of the summer, everything either calmed, settled, fell apart, came to a head or imploded“, und weiter „When I went through a difficult time at the start of last year, writing songs helped me understand my feelings and come to terms with what was going on, and when I learned about my friend’s different situations, I wrote songs, some from their perspectives, some from mine, to capture how they and I viewed the world at that time. There were highs of falling in love and new friendships among lows of heartbreak, depression, loneliness and confusion.“ (Ed Sheeran)
