In this recording, David Stromberg deals with the well-known Bach cello solo suites. Unlike the usual recordings, he uses a historical style of playing and interpretation using the baroque cello, piccolo cello and a baroque bow. The gut strings of the baroque cello have a more versatile sound than the steel strings and enable the finest nuances in the tone. In this way one will discover these works in a fresh new way. The cellist David Stromberg is looking for new listening experiences - be it with the baroque cello, the cello piccolo or the modern cello. He is fascinated by both early music and new music, he searches for new forms of expression in improvisation, arranges well-known masterpieces so that they appear in a completely new guise and searches for forgotten instruments. David Stromberg completed his cello studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater in the class of Prof. Wolfgang Mehlhorn and at the Music Institute Schloss Edsberg in Stockholm with Prof. Frans Helmerson.

Der Cellist David Stromberg sucht nach neuen Hörererlebnissen – sei es mit dem Barockcello, dem Cello piccolo oder dem modernen Cello. Ihn fasziniert die Alte Musik wie auch die Neue Musik, er sucht in der Improvisation nach neuen Ausdrucksformen, arrangiert altbekannte Meisterwerke, sodass sie in einem ganz neuen Gewand erscheinen und forscht nach vergessenen Instrumenten.

David Stromberg hat in Kooperation mit dem Bayerischen Rundfunk eine CD mit Solo- und Kammermusikwerken von Emanuel Moór aufgenommen. Im Doppelkonzert für zwei Celli wurde er von den Nürnberger Symphonikern begleitet.

Emanuel Moór entwickelte das Duplex Coupler Grand Piano, ein Klavier mit zwei Manualen und besonderen Klangmerkmalen. David Stromberg initiierte damit im Jahr 2022 die „Emanuel Moór Konzertreihe“ in Hamburg und nahm mit diesem Instrument und seinem Cello eine CD auf. Das Duplex Coupler Grand Piano spielt darauf der Pianist Florian Uhlig.

In Kooperation mit Deutschlandradio Kultur erschien seine CD „Transition“. Er spielt das Cellokonzert von Schumann und die Rokoko-Variationen von Tschaikowski sowie weitere romantische Charakterstücke in seinen eigenen Bearbeitungen für Cello und Bläserquintett. Diese Bearbeitungen veröffentlichte David Stromberg im Sikorski Musikverlag. Die CD wurde „CD der Woche“ beim SWR, Rezensionen erfolgten beim NDR, SWR, Deutschlandradio Kultur und in Printmedien wie „Concerti“, „Die Welt“, Wiener Zeitung und dem Sonic Magazin.

Im Jahr 2022 wird die Gesamtaufnahme der Solosuiten von Johann-Sebastian Bach auf CD erscheinen. Er spielt darauf das Barockcello und das Cello piccolo.

Die Improvisation in der Musik beschäftigt David Stromberg seit langem. Auch die Interpretation von komponierter Musik lebt von dem spontanen Element. Ein besonderes Gebiet der Improvisation sind die Kadenzen im klassischen Solokonzert. Sie wurden ursprünglich improvisiert, aber heute spielen die Musiker meist komponierte Kadenzen. David Stromberg hat das Thema erforscht und lehrt nun in Kursen an Musikhochschulen, wie diese Kadenzen heute wieder improvisiert werden können. Für den Hörer sind solche improvisierten Kadenzen ein Erlebnis.

David Stromberg absolvierte sein Violoncello-Studium an der Hamburger Hochschule für Musik und Theater in der Klasse von Prof. Wolfgang Mehlhorn sowie am Musikinstitut Schloss Edsberg in Stockholm bei Prof. Frans Helmerson. Wesentliche Impulse erhielt er in Meisterkursen bei Boris Pergamentschikow, Ralph Kirshbaum, Wolfgang Boettcher, Dimitri Ferschtman, Siegfried Palm und Ralph Gothoni. Mit dem Barockcello besuchte er Meisterkurse bei Kristin von der Goltz. Bei der CD-Aufnahme der Solosuiten von Johann-Sebastian Bach hat ihn der Barockgeiger Thomas Pietsch begleitet.
