Info for Symphony I

When Anton Bruckner composed his Symphony No. 1 in 1865/66, he was employed as cathedral organist at Linz Cathedral. However, the premiere in 1868 was to be the only time this work could be heard for almost a quarter of a century. After he had already completed seven other symphonies, he revisited the First at the request of the conductor Hans Richter, who wanted to perform the early work again, and in the process fundamentally revised it. On this album from the St. Florian Abbey Basilica, Rémy Ballot and the Altomonte Orchestra of St. Florian present this second, "Viennese version" of the First Symphony, which was premiered in 1891 as a new version. In its usual coherent interpretation, adapted to the special acoustics of the church, this recording represents the conclusion of Bruckner's symphonic canon of works with Rémy Ballot from the Bruckner Festival St. Florian.
