Es gibt Melodien, die uns ein Leben lang begleiten. Man dreht und wendet sie, sie können inspirieren, Hoffnung geben oder Trost spenden. Für Johann Sebastian Bach [1685-1750] war es ein schlichtes Kirchenlied: O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden. Er verwendete diese Melodie immer wieder, in verschiedenen Vertonungen, in einigen seiner größten Werke wie dem Weihnachtsoratorium oder der Matthäus-Passion. Sie durchzieht sein Leben als roter Faden, wie dieses Konzeptalbum: Ebenbild ist eine durchlaufende Erzählung, in der die Grenzen musikalischer Genres und die zwischen Musik und Sprache verschwimmen.

In Ebenbild entfalten wir dieses Lied, das viele unterschiedliche Namen trägt, in all seinen Facetten. Wir beginnen mit der Urfassung, dem einfachen Madrigal und Kleinod frühbarocker Lyrik Mein Gmüth ist mir verwirret von Hans Leo Haßler [1564-1612]. Anhand dieser fünf Textstrophen eines anonymen Dichters entwickeln wir ein Narrativ über fünf Hauptwerke, von denen jedes einen Aspekt des Gedichtes entschlüsselt. Zwischen sie setzen wir die höchst unterschiedlichen Choralfassungen Bachs und rezitieren die jeweiligen Textstrophen, stets attacca in die musikalische Dramaturgie eingebunden.

Juri Vallentin
Vallentin’s permanent search for new forms of expression and narratives for his instrument has earned him a prominent place among young soloists of his generation. His goal is the constant development of a contemporary context for classical music from the baroque to the present.

Winner of major international competitions, such as the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition St. Petersburg as first oboist, the German Music Competition or the International Oboe Competition of Japan, he has performed as a soloist with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra St. Petersburg, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Lower Saxony State Orchestra Hanover, Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, among others. In 2021 he won the Berlin Prize for Young Artists curated by VAN magazine for new concert concepts of young soloists with his solo performance INNER VOICES developed together with stage director Neil Barry Moss.

His debut album BRIDGES with music from five centuries as well as numerous radio productions for BR, SWR or Deutschlandfunk document his artistic work. 2022 will see the release of his second album EBENBILD, which combines music and literature and is based in form and interpretation on early baroque poetry.

In addition to the classical core repertoire for oboe from Vivaldi, Bach or Handel to Mozart, Strauss, Martinů and Zimmermann, he devotes himself with great passion to collaborating with contemporary composers. Juri has played numerous world and national premieres of works by Toshio Hosokawa, Gilles Silvestrini or András Hamary and is enthusiastic about rediscovering valuable forgotten music for his instrument, for example Johann Christoph Pez, Charles Bochsa or Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre.

Born in Mainz, he studied in Nuremberg with Clara Dent-Bogányi and at the renowned Conservatoire de Paris with Jacques Tys, where he graduated with highest honors. In 2021 Juri Vallentin was appointed professor of oboe at the Karlsruhe University of Music.
