Info for How To Be Human

Multi-BRIT nominee and 2024 Mercury Prize shortlister Cat Burns is back with her most vulnerable project yet. A year after the success of her top-ten debut early twenties, the singer-songwriter releases her next body of work, "How to be Human".

Spanning 16 tracks, the album explores the tangled mix of grief, love, and self-discovery. Recent singles “All This Love” and sapphic anthem “GIRLS!” have already set the tone, but the full record promises an even deeper dive into her inner world. Written entirely by Cat, the songs carry her signature honesty, woven with affirmations, personal reflections, and even voice notes, making it her most direct and personal storytelling yet.

The visual concept for the album was directed by Cat herself, with photographer Sebastian Xavier capturing artwork that mirrors its raw intimacy. Speaking about the record, Cat explains:

“How to be human is about the last year of my life. I experienced the death of a loved one and my first relationship heartbreak at the same time and genuinely had no idea how I would get through the situation. Making this album was my introspective and neurodivergent way of navigating heartbreak and the loss of my Grandad who I was extremely close to – it’s my comfort album. While making it I realised how many people it could help. I hope it provides them some comfort too and shows how you can pick yourself back up.”

Cat Burns

Cat Burns
Multi-BRIT-nominated, double-platinum-selling South London artist Cat Burns cements her position as one of the UK's most exciting singer/songwriters with the release of her eagerly-anticipated debut album, early twenties — the Top 10 Album which is one of the Mercury Prize 2024 Albums of the Year.

Early twenties is a love letter to her community and explores the complexities and emotions surrounding this era of adulthood. Filled with Cat's honest and diaristic storytelling, her upcoming debut album is a warm and relatable listen for Gen Z or those nostalgic for their formative adult years. It debuted in the UK album charts at #7 in July 2024.

Cat Burns represents and is leading the charge of young, Black British queer creatives cutting through culture today. A three-time BRIT Award nominee, BBC Sound Poll 2023 shortlist, Spotify Rising inductee, Mercury Prize shortlist to name a few accolades under her belt, Cat propelled into the spotlight in 2022 with her viral smash 'go,' which peaked at #2 on the Official Singles Chart and earned a double-platinum certification.

Cat has made her mark on stages on both sides of the pond, opening for global superstars Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith on their respective headline tours. She wins over audiences with her sublime live performances and has cultivated a solid fanbase in the process. Additionally, Cat has made standout debut performances at Glastonbury and the Governor's Ball in New York, as well as appearances at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, Boardmasters, Mighty Hoopla and TRNSMT Festival.
